Is this possible? I play with background/video off, and use transparent icons for inputoverlay-background and inputoverlay-key, so having the text be white would make it actually... seeable?

You can just head over to your skin.ini file and add the following command:
[Colours] InputOverlayText: 255,255,255 //If you spotted them, just rewrite the code to the value mentioned.
