Pokemon Platinum, and get HeartGold/SoulSilver when they come out.
This is because these are great, solid, fun RPGs. It's really weird, actually. They make it kid-friendly while not overly kiddy. It's... amazing? Game for all ages.
Aside from that, tell us what you like so we can give real recommendations.
Wii?
There are plenty of games you can get that are good. Just too lazy to list them. Uh, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (at least rent it, for... various reasons. Even if you don't get very far in it). Metroid Prime 3, and some other games I can't remember.

How the hell did I forget Brawl? I played it again yesterday. Brawl+ is fun. Mario Kart Wii is just fun. I never played Metroid Prime 3, but I loved those two.
So, if anything, get Super Smash Brothers Brawl. You won't regret it.
