Currently, the username changing system has a measure in place to prevent random username theft which increases exponentially based on playcount. This is good, as it prevents people from stealing a username from an otherwise very active player who decided to take a couple months break.

However, this becomes an issue when a player (in my case, Cyro) with a decent playcount goes inactive. Leading to the person who wants the username to have to wait years for a username. Not to mention if the player randomly remembers the game exists after 2 years of inactivity, plays two maps, then never touches it again, the clock gets reset.

I have a proposal for how this could be fixed.

Firstly, a cap could be set on how long one must wait before taking a username. I suggest 1-1.5 years.

Secondly, there would be a rework on how avaliability is determined. Instead of every play resetting the clock, it simply adds onto the time instead. This way the dreams of someone who's been waiting 2 years for a username arent crushed because CircleClicker227 decided to set one score. I don't believe this would cause any additional issues either, as there would still be the regular 6 month period before the additional time.

Nah, my suggestion is to find another good account name.

Why not think on behalf the other player? What if you are on military service for 2 years and when you are back your name become osuplayer727-old?
