Yeah it's there, you just can't see it :p

I personally didn't like it overlapping the score explosion so I left it out.
I like it as it is. I think that's how the games did it, IIRC...

Having them off of the slider would probably be distracting. I like osu's behaviour better 
For the record I doubt I'll be changing this behaviour.
