Keywords: Keyword, Search, Tags, Feature, Describe

Is it possible to have keyword tags for each Requests (for better search results)? The tags can be added by anyone (OP/Viewr/Mods) and the aim is to better describe the features.

Personally I find the current search system difficult to use when looking for a request. There are often too many search results if too few keywords are used (in a content search), while searching for Titles only cannot be replied upon because the same idea can be described in many ways (not to mention a lot of those "wtf is this" titles). Plus a lot of the time you have to think about what keywords to use for the search when finding a duplicate. Having tags allow a feature to be described in many ways without messing up the Title and hopefully brings more useful search results.

For example this thread can be presented as (taken from Nathanael's post below):
[Web] Keyword Tags for Feature Requests
Tags: Tags, Keywords, Search, Rule, Web, Request

Personally I find the current search system difficult to use when looking for a request....
Application Example
t/158442 and t/130904 are requests for some sort of notification when a certain username is mentioned in posts, but described differently. Having Tags system allows any viewer of the thread to add their views on "What this Request is about" eg "highlight", "keyword", "quote" etc which the OP may have missed out himself.

When someone searches for any keywords, the search result should be sorted by how many times it's been tagged for each requests; this imo will be really handy when multiple keywords are used together (in an OR operation).

I think at the moment we're replying heavily on mods' knowledge of past Requests and hopefully this idea improves the situation (at least for those who tries to search before posting). Just wondering what others think... (Gees it's been a while since I made the last Request lol)

EDIT: Added Nathanael's example into OP.

More accurate or even precise results are shown on searching with that feature.

This can be also applied as a new rule when making requests by letting the user add tags in each request.
The moderators can edit the post and add/remove keywords just in case that the thread starter has not included them.
( Adding keywords that is part of the request, Removing unecessary keywords that may mix up on other searches )

Example:
[Web] Keyword Tags for Feature Requests
Tags: Tags, Keywords, Search, Rule, Web, Request

Personally I find the current search system difficult to use when looking for a request. There are often too many search results if too few keywords are used (in a content search), while searching for Titles only cannot be replied upon because the same idea can be described in many ways (not to mention a lot of those "wtf is this" titles). [Edit]
Another sample is my request: t/152638 ( I just edited it recently )
The thread is looking better and properly organized with this.

Wow nice example tags! Just what I had in mind :)

EDIT: Btw I would've tagged this thread differently: Search, Keywords, Tags, Describe, Feature. Compare this with Nathanael's Tag example and it's easy to see that each person have different ways of describing an idea. Following the system described in the OP, this thread will be presented as follows in a search query:

[Web] Keyword Tags for Feature Requests
Tags: Keywords (2), Search (2), Tags (2), Describe (1), Feature (1), Rule (1), Web (1)
^The number in brackets represents how many times each word has been tagged, in this example only 2 users have added tag to this request. This helps identify what most people think a Request is about, while giving better result when someone search with an "obscure" word.

We won't know if it supports the forum system but it might work imo.

The search system is still difficult for people that it only checks for the keywords we input if they exist on every posts/replies.
It sometimes give inaccurate results and just make the user confused.

My first example was just about adding it as a rule when making threads but not on the forum itself.
So here is another example based from Oinari-sama's idea.

I'd love to see this. Bumping would work mich better in this way.

Use the google search bar. tags are archaic and should be required in this day and age. include tags in topic.

I guess adding tags into the OP kind of works too, if the thread maker or a mod would deligently update the keywords. I'm not sure how effective this approach will be in narrowing search results, but we can always try and see. I'll start by updating all the requests made by me.

Every word that is mentioned in a top in the specified character limit is a keyword. I wouldn't mind if there was a special place to put these keywords that didn't require a topic edit.

@peppy I'm not sure what google search has to do with tagging.
