Try holding down the mouse button.
anonymous_old
I'm sure it says to hold down the mouse button or key while spinning in the tutorial.

Well DUH you have to hold down the mouse button! Can't believe you'd just jump right to the stupid solution.

The bars on the sides only get a little less than 7/8ths full most of the time, even less if it's a longer spin. The quick spins that appear and disappear I never get. There may have been, 4 or 5 spins I've ever complete don the 30+ songs i've played with spins.

I would THINK if I didn't hold down the mouse button, I'd be intelligent enough to solve it on my own.

My cursor goes like that in full screen, Are you using full screen?
Lucidity
Are you using a different skin than osu! default? Can you see your cursor clearly during spins? Do you spin wildly to try to achieve maximum speed?

The easiest way is to spin is in a small circle in the middle. You can even go slowly, making sure the cursor goes around the center, and still achieve a relatively good speed. Try that if you're not doing it already D:

I'm using the default. I try not to spind WILDLY, but with a speed to go pretty fast.

When I tried going little slower, it didn't work too well, but i'll try again. when I try to make a smaller circle, the mouse just goes up and down or left and right.

maybe my hand is just retarded ;o;

-tries going slower-
rust45
Maybe you could provide a .osr of a map with a spinner so we can see how you spin, maybe that will help.
Lucidity
Heh, I also had trouble getting my spin right and it's still not the best.

What I'd suggest is loading up a map like Ievan polka and taking your cursor around the center very slowly. Watch your hand movement while you're doing it. Then slowly begin to increase the speed, but making sure that you keep the same motion going. Try to maintain 200rpm and when you get used to the movement (after lots of repetition) the speed increase will come naturally :o

Not for me, and not for many other players. People have different styles.

OP, what is the RPM at the bottom of the spinner when you spin? Watch a replay if you can't see while playing.
Lucidity
That's what I thought as well. I used to spin around the edges of the window basically. I still get faster speeds like that, but at the expense of control after the spin, which isn't worth it.

Unless you're using a very high sensitivity I think there are definite (obvious) advantages of focusing your spin around the center. If you look at the top players they almost exclusively spin like that.
mm201
Stir coffee. (or something) Try to get it to swirl nice and fast without spilling. Repeat the same motions with your mouse. Make sure your cursor stays centred.

150 is definitely not enough. You need at least 230 or so.

Also, I can't seem to open your replay. Do you have the latest version of the map?
Topic Starter
JeY k
Apparently I didn't.

Replay should work now - i'm definitely not getting any better at spins ;o;

Bah! Spins are ruining my combos, and when I finish a spin I can never hit the ntoes directly after ;o;

Are you spinning with your wrist or your arm? Or a combination of both?
Topic Starter
JeY k
It feels like a combination. I'll struggle with my wrist and somewhat invovle my arm, it seems.

I turned my in-game sentivity up, and I do a lot better with spinners, but I could still do better.

What's your tips, anyway?

Edit: ARRGH. Now there's a song I really want to pass that becomes inpossible becuase of 3 spins ina row and I can't PSIN. The stupid meter at the top just goes all the way down while I fail at spinning :|

You seem to be getting a bonus every time you spin :(

Also your RPM is a lot higher than mine. I played the song again <_< I didn't do well at all.

It looks like a big improvement from the first replay you posted here to me :P Nice, just keep at it. It will get easier the more you spin:)

I still can't spin! new song, it seems every time I try ot spin, my wrist just goes side to side. I watched the replays of the top people, and their spinenrs go crazy with like 20k+ bonsues, and a nearly perfect motion :|

Lol, play for another week and come post a replay of your spins here then :P You'll see a marked improvement:)
kideddie1501
ok, check ur mouse. that might be it 'cuz mine often times does thesame thingt and its cuz the little pads on the bottom of my wireless mouse are peeling off and gets in the way of a smooth spin.

Your sig is really random >_>

i'm sure it isn't my mouse, it's my hand being retarded. Maybe I just have to practice it up.

edit: AHA! I figured out a trick! Look how much better my spins are :D!

high sensitivity = Spin large circles
Low sensitivity = Spin small circles

you shouldn't need to use your arm to much, or any at all.

ofcourse using high sensitivity you can spin small circles aswell to get a better recovery after the spinner.

Its called the search function.
Lucidity
Tbh, searching "spin" suggests that this is only the second topic of it's kind this year and the previous one wasn't actually related to the OPs question!
lukewarmholiday
Lucidity
Hehehe :) You thought I didn't actually search?

Yes it's someone having trouble with spinning. No it doesn't relate to spinning technique. There are 3 replies and they're all about buying a new mouse. Not relevant.

lukewarmholiday wrote:

This is not a thread about someone who has trouble spinning. It is a thread with people saying how they spin? The thread is also from 2008. Not relevant.

lukewarmholiday wrote:

Congrats! Your first find that is about someone asking for technique help. Too bad it's on a tablet and not a mouse. Not relevant.

Thread is older than a year. Spinning algorithm has changed since then. (Was before my time so I don't know if it affects anything). Point is it's not from this year. If he had revived it you would have bitched about necro'ing. So old and Not relevant.

lukewarmholiday wrote:

Again this is from April 2008. Same as above. Old and Not relevant.

So are you ready to admit that "ZOMG ALL THESE SPINNING THREADS POP UP ALL THE TIME" was all in your head? :)

Alright let me reexamine my post.

First link is not relevant after reading it(I only read first post I admit) it IS a spinner thread although the culprit is a ball mouse

2nd link is more than enough to be relevant. YEAR DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER. People stating how they spin, also shows that not everyone spins the same.

3rd link is to establish yet another spinning thread. Thanks for telling me it was a tablet thread though, I didn't already make note of that or anything.

4th link ITS PERFECTLY FUCKING RELEVANT, THE SPINNING ALGORITHM ISN'T GOING TO CHANGE HOW TO MAKE THE MOTION OF A CIRCLE

5th link ITS PERFECTLY FUCKING RELEVANT SEE ABOVE

I don't see how time changes how someone spins in a circle. Or the ability to use the fucking search function.

Thanks for carefully dissecting my post.
Lucidity
Please, let's not resort to arguing semantics. I just used the "Not relevant" phrase so that it would be consistent throughout. Of course an old thread about spinning problems is "relevant". But it doesn't fit in the little list that you posted (Which is what I tried to point out). Let me explain.

You posted a pic which suggested that this kind of thread occurs much too frequently for your liking. (If I misinterpreted please do tell!)

I posted something and you replied with "Its called the search function."

I then posted:

Lucidity wrote:

Take note of two things here:
  1. I refer to this year in particular.
  2. I specify a specific type of topic. (i.e. Someone asking for help with spinners.)
I specified the year, because on most boards people prefer a new topic to a necro. It is also related to the frequency of these topics.

I specified the kind of topic for obvious reasons.

Then you replied with a list of topics which supposedly proved my claim wrong. I showed you why they don't apply to the criteria specified by me.

Do you understand now?

Your claim was that these kind of topics are frequently discussed. They are not. Time to admit it? :)

just let this thread keep alive, will help other people who cant spin read up here anyway :P
Trying my best!
lukewarmholiday
The fact is, this topic has been brought up enough to not merit a necro or a new post.

Year doesn't matter because i've still seen the thread a ton. I've heard people talk about spinners enough, In fact I think general discussion has had 1 or 2 threads about spinners.

I just used the "Not relevant" phrase so that it would be consistent throughout.
And you managed to make yourself look like a fucktard.

THIS IS AN OLD TOPIC, THERE ARE PLENTY OF ANSWERS ALREADY ON THE SITE. NOT TO MENTION I FEEL IT'S A PRETTY RETARDED TOPIC, YOU'RE ASKING HOW TO MAKE CIRCLES, WITH A MOUSE. IT'S JUST DEXTERITY, SOMETHING THAT ISN'T LEARNED, ITS ACQUIRED. DEXTERITY COMES THROUGH USE.
Lucidity
You're a stubborn one, aren't you:) This thread is the third of its kind in 16 months. I would not think that it warrants a "OMG NOT THIS THREAD AGAIN" pic. But I can see that you will refuse to give in on that point. Simply because you do not like to be wrong.

As for your rant on dexterity, you're right to a degree. Of course he'll only get better by playing, but that does not mean asking for help in a thread is retarded. Asking someone to point you in the right direction is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Think about bowling and batting in cricket. Sure it's just "throwing or hitting a ball", but every kid has a coach that teaches them how to do it initially. They are taught different techniques and their mistakes are pointed out to them. Why should that not apply to this? There are no coaches in osu, so the only place one can ask for assistance is in a thread.
lukewarmholiday
Hitting a baseball, kicking a football, throwing a football, hitting a golfball, etc are all substantially more complex than making circles with a mouse. Not a great comparison.

You're the one who feels the need to challenge my shenanigans, I have seen this thread before and people talk about spinning way to much, to the point where I actually sigh seeing another spinner thread. Why do you feel the urgent desire to challenge that, I've shown you the spinning threads, it's been done before, age doesn't matter I'VE SEEN IT BEFORE. There isn't many carbon copies of this thread, it doesn't take a carbon copy for a topic to have been discussed before. On top of that the resources to find the answer are here on the site.

his thread is the third of its kind in 16 months. I would not think that it warrants a "OMG NOT THIS THREAD AGAIN" pic.
Well you aren't the one who posted the pic because he feels that way.

But I can see that you will refuse to give in on that point. Simply because you do not like to be wrong.
You don't feel this threads topic has been already discussed to the point where it's annoying to hear it again. I do. We are going to be at odds, don't just say BUT YOU'RE WRONG YOU JUST WONT ACCEPT IT. That makes me think you're a self righteous prick.

P.S. If the OP returns to this thread, I'm not accusing him of any wrong, I would have liked him to use the search function, yes, but that's about it.

Look ,Lucidity is right on this one. But dude, stop contradicting something that doesnt need to be. We're trying to help wats-his-face with spinning issues, not prove a relevant- non relevant post that doesnt apply to wats-his-face's problem.
Lucidity
I don't know how else to phrase my replies. They are as basic as they come. Whether you get irritated or see a lot of (non forum) discussions about spinning is besides the point. The point is "Asking for spinner help" threads are rare, as proven by the analysis. The picture you posted has no reason to be here. This is not my opinion, this is a fact. There exists only 3 topics of its kind and the previous one is more than a year old. It is not a common topic. Fact.

You might find it irritating after reading one such thread over a year ago, but your frustration with the topic is illogical. Are you ready to accept it?

i bet your arm dies after a very long spinner xD

also much more harder recovery your way :(
Lucidity
Yeah, I gotta say that's insane ;o I used to spin like that, but on insane maps you can't afford that half a second delay that a large crazy spin gives you o;
anonymous_old
I only get tired for 20+ second spinners. I don't have many issues with recovery, unless the note is like 1/8 after, where I either spin in small circles for shorter spinners or end sonner for longer spinners.
tobebuta
me too
SlaughterMelon_old
I know it's kinda old (like.. a week... lol), and I know I'm a "noob," but I have information (noobs helping noobs, eh?). I am right handed, but I found spinners hard, at first. What I learned to do is make LARGE CIRCLES using my WHOLE ARM. The main problem I found with spinners was my cursor would be too close to the middle, and it'd just be going back and forth... right over the center of the spinner. NOT HELPFUL.

I'll repeat it: LARGE CIRCLES with your WHOLE ARM

It helped me, dunno if it'll help you, but it's worth a try, eh?

EDIT: Something I forgot to add. Sometimes I have to stop the spin before getting a full bonus because I'm not prepared for the notes that come immediately after (if there are any).

SlaughterMelon wrote:

That is why a smaller more controlled spin is desired. It doesn't come natural to everyone (Didn't to me) but it really helps if you can get it to a decent speed ;o
anonymous_old
I say try something, and if you can't pick it up in a day, scrap it.

That's how I live. And that's how I got stuck with osu! =[

Great philosophy to apply to universities tbh.
