Hi everyone, so I've been playing Osu!Mania for quite a bit and I recently started to play O!M-only songs, and god they are hard.
Can anyone give any tips to cross this skill barrier?
If it helps, my most recent achievement was Entozer's Dynasty chart clear. Thanks in advance!

mike91lau, don't use this to advertise your own map with no useful input.

As far as how to get better, go read the link ishimaru posted, we don't need more duplicate threads (It would be helpful if someone could close this thread).

Here's the one I posted on a player similar to you. :)

Welcome to the community NekoTomoe!
Since you're a fellow mania player, I have some tips that I can personally share with you. ;)

1. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS PLAY NOT FOR THE SCORES /RANKS (though it matters when your rank is 10k-above) BUT FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL ENJOYMENT AND SATISFACTION. Do not frustrate yourself in trying over and over a map just because you couldn't SS it. Nothing to worry, though, it will come in time, which leads me to the second tip~

2. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Yep. That's basically it. Practice makes perfect, right? :D

3. If you've come to a point where you're playing maps that are harder/has more bpm (5k, 6k, 7k), DO NOT TEMP YOURSELF TO GLANCE AT YOUR ACCURACY METER EVEN FOR A SECOND! This could be the difference between a full combo and a broken one, 'cause it hinders you to concentrate on the keys.

4. BE FRIENDLY/HUMBLE. When in the multiplayer mode (or even in the lobby, etc), don't start cursing just because a newbie haven't yet downloaded the map. Tell them politely on how to do so. Also, don't be a douche to other players whose rank is below yours. Just because your rank is higher than them doesn't give you the priveledge to boast.

5. TRY PLAYING MAPS THAT ARE ESPECIALLY MADE FOR OSU!MANIA. This will greatly enhance your eye-hand coordination, timing, and other basic skills needed to be good at this mode. Here are some examples of those beatmaps:

http://osu.ppy.sh/s/63089 - fripSide - only my railgun
http://osu.ppy.sh/s/80214 - Wotamin - Gigantic O.T.N
http://osu.ppy.sh/s/79038 - ALTIMA - Burst The Gravity (TV Size)

6. REMEMBER THAT RANKS ARE JUST NUMBERS. Don't be discouraged just because you can't rank up at the moment or just because some other dude whose rank is lower than yours achieved a higher rank in a map than your performance on it.

7. WATCH REPLAYS OF SOME OSU!MANIA TOP PLAYERS. This can give you some "motivation" and can help you to pursue to rank up more. Think of it this way - "If they can do it, then why can't I?". Remember though that these are the PROS - they achieved their current rank not just because of their skills/talents but also with patience and hardwork. Probably most of them started from where you are right now. ;)

8. BUY A POTATO. (A must!)

9. IGNORE TIP #8.

10. START FROM THE BOTTOM. (Forgot to put this on no. 1) Play first the easy ones. This will give you the confidence you need to play higher-difficulty maps.

Hope these tips will help you on your career. :D Ganbatte~!

That's a great post HinagikuKatsura. Everything you've said is completely true.

I always do this, is there a skin that hides the accuracy? :( Could help my scores by at least 1%

This actually kills my motivation.

I'll add some of this. No 4 is just the same with no 3 on my previous post. :)

I dunnow. Different people have different paces in improving in mania. Some learns fast just in weeks, others in months. Just keep playing while having fun on the process. :)

But if you still insist, here:
1. Adjust your universal local offset depending on your playstyle. If you're a fast-paced tapper, one who presses the keys a little or way before the right time, easily gets excited over changes in beats (just like me), set it on a higher offset. (Mine's 18ms) Otherwise, do the opposite.

2. You may already know this, but at the beginning of each song, try to adjust the osu!mania speed by pressing F3(increase) or F4(decrease) according to your preference.

3. There are maps that changes speed in certain parts, usually after a long pause. Use this opportunity to "counter" the speed by pressing F3/F4.

4. DO NOT LOOSE FOCUS. EVER. Never even attempt to glance at the upper right corner of your screen just to check your accuracy/score/whatever.

Oh, one thing I wanted to point out: you should change your speed in the song select wheel before you start the song, not during the beginning of the song.

Up until recently I didn't even know you could change the AR with F3 and F4... how do you do it in song select wheel? Is it possible to save AR settings for specific maps?
Bobbias
As long as you are in mania mode, the speed setting should appear in the top right corner of the screen.

It's the 10x in this screenshot:

Osu will remember the last speed you used on a song if you don't change your speed between switching songs. If you chose a song you haven't played in mania, or change your speed before starting, it will use the speed you set.

To be clear: it only remembers the speed you used if you don't change your speed when you select the song.

Here's how I pick my speeds.

Lets look at the BPM of the map I have selected in that screenshot. It's 160 BPM. I know I'm comfortable playing 160 BPM at speed 9 (playing with FL, without FL I would use higher speeds). If the BPM is lower, like say 150 BPM, I would increase up to 10. If it was about 135 to 120 I would go up to 11. And if it was higher like say 180 I would drop to speed 8.

There's no perfect way to select the scroll speed, so you need to experiment to learn what speed works best for you at what BPM.
