What do you class as foreign? I live in Australia, and got into j-pop first through anime and learning Japanese. Movies and friends are my biggest source of foreign exposure, although from the movies I watch and the friends I mingle with, I tend towards the asian culture of things. That and I'm asian...
Anime, and discovering you really like a song, so you decide to listen to their other music, and you really like it. Thats me >.>
Over here in Canada, I don't have much choice but to listen to foreign music, because, well, North America generally doesn't produce good music (in my opinion and the general consensus of those I hold in high regard). A few friends of mine, both online and inlife, have presented me with a few bands I really enjoyed from the general region of Finland/Norway, mostly melodic death metal (the finnish are probably the best at this btw!) and from there my interests spread to other genres of music which, by coincidence or perverse workings of fate, were also from Europe 95% of the time. I only listen to maybe one Japanese band and at most half a dozen North American bands @_@
