Updated Storyboard file! - fixes some minor graphical errors (download link in lower right corner of page)

My entry into LuigiHann's "Talk Like a Pirate Day" project. From the game Sonic Rush Adventure, the final full stage. Despite the theme of nautical nonsense and high seas in the game, the "pirates" aren't really very piratety, though they certainly talk like them, to an exaggerated degree.

I hope that this map will be my second fully SB'd map, too, as I look forward to learning looping. I plan to have the map done by the end of July, and the SB done by the end of August.

Changelog:
25 July: Fixed title
27 July: Alex0686's fixes, renamed difficulties so that Act 1 is now Act 2, Act 2 is now Vs. Boss. The new Act 1 is currently a placeholder.
09 August: Act 1 complete. Will get hitsounds on next update.
10 August: Alex0686's fixes, some hitsounds, but I'll need to go over the maps again with fresh eyes to make sure.
10 August: x3ns04's fixes, got a lot more hitsounds, and primative SB start.
11 August: yeahyeahyeahhh's fixes.
15 August: blissfulyoshi's fixes. I'm also working on the SB, but I didn't upload any of the media for it just yet...
28 August: sesito71's fixes. Hopefully SB will be done by the start of September.
31 August: To Pending. Storyboard isn't done yet, though.
1 September: Agent Spin Here's fixes.
13 September: Cutting it close; SB almost done, the passing ending is the only thing left. If that's all I have time for, expect a lot of the images to be cut from the final release.
14 September: SB is presentable! I might add a few more things, but for now, take a look!
15 September: 0_o's fixes.
17 September: SB Completed!
19 September: awp's fixes.
6 October: Armin's fixes, double-checked fade out for LH.
29 October: Loogiesquared's fixes

-,- I can't find anything worth modding. Just some nazi-ish symmetry stuff. :\ Just going to mention it, doesn't mean you have to do it! :D

[General]
Start timing sections some time before the note it effects. Unless it's for the end of a spinner/slider end or repeat point.

[Act 2]
00:14:38 (3,5) - move outward one (3)grid space. It's more symmetrical.
And nothing else. :D

[Act 1]
Follow what I said in [General] for this map. There's not many sections to check anyways. ^^
02:28:78 (6,7) - I don't know if this would be a bit confusing to someone else.

Starred.

Thanks. By the way, I've renamed the difficulties; Act 1 is now a placeholder for an Easy, Act 2 (which was once Act 1) is now the Normal, and Vs. Boss (which was once Act 2) is Hard.
cyanberryio
Back to mod Easy/Act 1.

[Act 1]
01:18:49 - Go ahead and move the silent section here. Won't make a difference(unless you mean that small, unnoticeable part of the slider to be silent :P). (And do this to all difficulties too.)
01:38:38 to 01:38:72 - Slider?
01:41:12 to 01:41:47 - ^ (And maybe similar sections, but these are the most empty of them.)

That's all! ^,^
XepherX3
[act 1]
01:36:324 >check screenshots

place them like that

01:57:756(5) : move to the white tick -->
02:03:242(6) : ""

[vs. Boss]
02:08:728(5,6,7): re-aligne these

and that's all folks!!!

Vs. Boss:
01:18:49 - I'd remove the volume change. If you REALLY want to use it, then I recommend making the volume a bit louder. I found 2 or 3 ticks to be good. Also, if you're going to use it on this difficulty, use it on the others. nvm, I could've sworn you used it in the others. I think it should be used in Act 2 though.
01:46:27 (4) - New combo
01:50:04 (5) - ^
02:40:44 (9,10,11) - Spacing, should match 02:39:58 (5,6,7)
Some of the sliders on this diff could use some work, some are a bit.. ugly :(

Act 2:
01:18:75 - I'd map this map and use the soft hitsounds.
00:20:90 (2) - new combo to go with the other new combos throughout the song that are like that.

Act 1:
None 8)

Nice job, star!

For the spinner in Vs. Boss. I thought spinnerspin was affected by the volume, but maybe not. Oh well, it still changes it for Taiko.

y is the overall diff lower in this than in act 2?
Whoops, thanks for catching that. At some point while I was making Vs. Boss, the *s must have gone to 5, and I don't want it that high.

Thanks for the mods and stars, everyone!
sesito71
haha, I remember this song ^^

Cool map, just let me tell you some suggestions ^^

[Act 1]

02:54:15 (1) - I don't like new combo here :/

[Act 2]

01:02:04 (2) - New combo?

[vs. Boss]

AIMod found some things, check them, but I think it's ok ^^

00:32:04 (2) - New combo here?
00:34:61 (1) - Remove new combo

Pretty good map :D

Sorry if this mod sucks it's quite late

Act 1
00:37:52 (1) - Start 1/2 earlier
01:47:29 (2) - End 1/2 earlier
02:09:24 (1) - Finish

Act 2
All good.

Vs. Boss
01:08:64 (3) - 1/4 later
02:45:07 (7,8) - Make this like the rest of the combo?

I like this map.

What I don't like is the Storyboard stopping abruptly at the first break. (If you want it to end maybe make a smooth transition to the outside of the screen.) Also Sonic is running to fast.

[vs. Boss]
At around 02:18:842 I seem to be missing a lot of hitsounds. I would really love them there at some point. 02:22:61 (8,9,1) - Maybe a whistle here or something?

Not sure if all the combo's are on the right spot such as: 02:23:64 (2)

But I'm not a expert in combo's so I'll leave that to others.

Starred!

The other acts are like near perfect :)

Overall: Remove AlbumArtSmall.jpg and Folder.jpg? They're not being used, right?

That is all! Great job!

Thanks, I seem to work better under stress. You should expect a lift on the "incomplete" notice by the end of tonight, hopefully.

Remove AlbumArtSmall.jpg and Folder.jpg? They're not being used, right?
Maybe I've removed them since I last full-uploaded, but even with hidden files on I can't seem to find them in Windows. They shouldn't be there anymore since I converted all of the album art-having MP3s to lower bitrate, but we'll see when I upload tonight.

Nice SB. I especially like the "falling through the air" scene. Just a couple small comments...

The ramps are cool, but are they really supposed to look like this? Is that how they look in the game? They look kind of chunky and unfinished in osu because of the jagged corners on the underside.

You should maybe start the SB by having the map background image fade away. That will make the best transition from the loading screen, and it will also prevent it from showing up during your fade out at the end
Topic Starter
K2J
I'll try the fade you suggested. And yeah, the edges are pretty jagged in the original game. Maybe not as steep (i.e., 2 blocks wide and 1 block high), but their undersides are right angles.

EDIT: Done. The fade occurs, and the slopes now have pillars holding them up. Not on every step, but it reduces the problem, in my mind.

Ah, the ending of the bad ending is pretty lulzy. Bad memories of StH2 within.

[Storyboard]
When Tails is doing his panicked face, he's too high up. Drop him down a pixel or two so you can't see the cutoff of his legs.
One time when I was playing [Act 1], elements of the storyboard began disappearing at random (ie they would take turns being visible, as if I had limited VRAM and osu! was trying to compensate, or something). On a second play, nothing odd occurred. Not certain what to make of it.

btw love the storyboard in general. Thanks for taking the time to do it; it really adds to the overall map.

[Timing]
Is it just me or are you around 12ms early? An offset of 341 still sounds a millisecond or two early to me, but I don't wanna jump extremes.

[Maps]
I liked 'em. SS'd A1, 2 100s on A2, so for a sightread I'd say they played pretty naturally. I was too busy interacting with the SB to get a reasonable score on Vs (first diff played) to recall what that was.

Some of the sliders in A1 sounded like they were ending at peculiar times to me, but that might be due to the offset as well. On a side, sliders such as 01:45:12 (5) - I feel sound awkward on easy maps, because it's starting on a half note. While there is a chime there, the emphasized chime is at 1:45:300. That's my preference, anyway.

I'd like to know if anyone got that SB glitch that I got before I myself would be able to bubble the map.

EDIT: Also for the love of god get rid of your "AlbumArtSmall.jpg" and other silly nonsense files.

Fixed in the bad ending (that is, the only time where he's not hidden by the namebox).

I've had this happen too, but only when in the editor. Never when doing normal play.

Talked about it on IRC; I moved it to 338, because 341 sounds late to me. Anyone else want to comment? With 20 minutes left in TLAPD, I'm more concerned about quality than about getting this ranked in time (impossible).

Fixed with shortening slider and putting circle on first half-beat chime (which is actually what I did earlier in the map, so it's more consistent now).

EDIT: Also for the love of god get rid of your "AlbumArtSmall.jpg" and other silly nonsense files.
I thought I fixed this; these files don't appear in my Windows Vista directory, and I even got osu! to remove these files before upload. They shouldn't be there anymore, but if they are... I have no idea why.

Yeah, can't do too much about the ramp right now. I think it's fine, but if there's a huge outcry, I might try something different.

I'd rather there wouldn't be, though. In my mind, the SB is done.

Download: Pirates' Island.zip

Download this. Extract and put it in its own folder your skins folder in the osu! folder where you installed the game (so the final folder should be something like osu!/Skins/Pirates' Island). If you don't know where your osu! folder is, open up any song in the in-game editor, select File > Open Song Folder, then go up a few folders until you find the general osu! one.

As an added bonus, the skin will still apply to the results screen, unlike in my map, which was due to technical limitations. If you want to fix this in the future, click here and support this idea.
