I'm quite new to this game actually but I'm wondering, why isn't the ranked system different depending on what you play with? I mean, you have different ranks for game mods, why not which accessory you use also?

In my opinion, game mods like flashlight or hardrock genuinely increase difficulty, whereas the medium in which you use to play is personal preference. Hence, there is no need for a separate ranking system.

I would agree with you, but if you look at the high ranked players or pros if you want to call them that, they all use tablets or so far that's all I've seen. So I think there's more to it then just personal preference unfortunately.

I just think it would be more fun to split them up.

Is there any real reason to have rankings based on what input device you use? Just because a lot of top ranking players are using tablet doesn't mean it's the most optimal way to play osu... it just means they're not using a mouse. With that said, it is personal preference like mathexpert said.

There are a bunch of high-ranked players that use mouse... It's personal preference and I don't see why we'd need to split the leaderboards based on playstyle.

correlation does not imply causation

First of all, tbh we don't even know if the trend is true for the say, top 5000 "pros" (though if there were accurate statistics to back this up I would be interested).
Regardless of this, just because there might be a trend of the high ranked players being more common doesn't necessarily mean that playing w/ a tablet is more effective than a mouse, at least to the point where a separate ranking system would be necessary.

...but, even if it did (which I don't think it is), there are still many issues with having a separate ranking system. For one, it would be redundant because I'm willing to bet that the best tablet users match the skill of the best mice users. That is to say, the two rankings would look very similar, only with different users (unlike mod rankings– no mod scores are quite different from flashlight scores). Why would implementing this be necessary? imo, an excess of features in a game or application is detrimental to aesthetics and simplicity of the software. More importantly, this seems pretty useless and a waste of time for something that isn't very reliable to begin with. afaik, there's no way for osu to differentiate mouse clicks and tablet clicks; therefore users could just put whatever they wanted. For those who like to play different ways (I have a friend who can play both way, and does so depending on his mood :P), it would be annoying to set the mode every time they changed styles.

Having used both a mouse and tablet, I'd say it's down to personal preference. Having a tablet doesn't instantly give one person an advantage over another, it's down to experience with the game and the peripheral; in my case I made the switch because using a mouse for a game like Osu would mean that I'd have to keep my wrist incredibly rigid for a long period of time, and this started to really hurt and get annoying so I switched to tablet (yeah I just had a weird tendency to tense my wrist up when I played Osu with a mouse).

People would spoof input to show they're good at something they're not. Sounds pretty silly imo, but I could see it happening...

My tablet acts as a mouse though to most programs (uses a filter driver), so I'd wonder how osu! would even be able to tell the difference.

I got my tablet simply because I thought it would make the game more fun.
and, I was right.

If anything the tablet is more fun to play with.

I like how there's a huge debate between mouse and tablet despite the fact that it only helps you on jumps

What about streaming speed (I'm leaving out tap/x because mouseusers can 4key), streaming accuracy, general accuracy, ability to read maps, ability to read high AR and some other things that I most likely forgot to mention here? It's like you people think that tablet is a magical thing that makes you better at EVERYTHING.

And I do acknowledge that playing with a mouse takes more skill, but the skill difference is not that big (inb4 I need to start playing with a mouse again to prove my point, a thing that I have been considering lately anyway). And why is nobody mentioning the fact that Circle Snapping (or Note Snapping or WHATEVER SNAPPING) is easier with a mouse than it is with a tablet, a thing that makes many jump patterns easier.

Also I get the feeling that the ones who whine about tablets and mouses (or mice I DON'T CARE) don't usually play this game that much or play this game casually OR are not that good in osu anyway LOL
