It's funny that we have a game entirely dedicated to music and no thread about what sorts of music people like ??? I'm interested in seeing the diversity (or, against my fears, lack thereof) of peoples tastes in music.

If it weren't apparent by my profile/beatmap listing, most of my favourite bands/genres of music come from the Metal genre. The two greatest bands I have ever heard, unrivalled, are Blind Stare (Symphonic/Melodic Death Metal) and Ram-Zet (Gothic Avant-garde aka "schizo" Metal). In a reasonably close third, fourth, and fifth come Eternal Tears of Sorrow (Symphonic/Melodic Death Metal), The Crown (Thrash/Speed Metal) and Strapping Young Lad/Devin Townsend (I really have no fucking clue what genre SYL falls into). Dream Theater is also blindingly incredible, and a little more well known. Actually, I'm going to stop here before I list another dozen bands that I consider on the same level as the above listed.

Musical genres in relative order of preference:

Melodic Death Metal (symphonic elements are a plus)
Power/Flower Metal
Progressive Metal (if there are Death influences that'd be wonderful - lookin' at you, Opeth)
Gothic Metal
Speed/Thrash Metal
Video Game Music
Melodic Black Metal
Avant Garde Metal (As a single genre I don't really care too much for it, but when it has other influences it is fantastic)
Hard Rock
Starrodkirby86
My favorites would be classic technos, anything containing rock but still contains beauty, rock, foriegn, and J and K rap, the more recent Thai music, also Video Game, Retro, and Oldies. Yes, oldies. Bunch of Music Groups, so I don't want to name them all. On the other hand though, musics overused, overrated, known to a negative audience and being worshipped is what I dislike. Their songs are great, but meh...:(

Other than that, pretty much that's it.

In order of my liking:
Videogame Music
J-Music
Rock
I also like some classical
I really listen to anything, but these are just the genres I'm really into.
Favorite Bands: Only Sambomaster!
and Favorite Composer: Obviously Nobuo Uematsu!

I don't listen to much music in my everyday life, therefore I don't know many bands off the top of my head. When I do listen to music, it's always Metal. I don't like the ultra-heavy black and thrash metal so much, but I'm open for most, if not all the rest.

And yeah, video game music and the occasional song that I like, apparently by no pattern.

Preferred genres of music:
Ska
Drum and bass

Favourite bands/artists include Reel Big Fish, cornandbeans (an incredible artist from Newgrounds), Silvia (lol j techno), Cranky (lol j techno), Phantasma, Operation Ivy, The Clash, Liquid Tension Experiment, Freezepop, Rasputina, Mindless Self Indulgence, Electric Six, They Might be Giants and Saosin.

Haaaaaalleluuuuujaaaaah. Acoustic FTW :D

I have very varied taste in music, but amongst my likes are (in no particular order) Rock (e.g. Linkin Park), Acoustic (e.g. John Mayer), Nobuo Uematsu (in particular his FF Piano collections), VG Music (especially PW!) and a smattering of other artists including The Fray, Jay Chou, Jack Johnson, James Morrison, Jamie Cullum, Evermore, Wolfmother and Jamiroquai.

Yep, nothing remotely anime or J-pop in there. Although after playing Ouendan, Homemade Kazoku has managed to find its way onto my playlist. Probably my first and last Japanese album but it isn't bad at all.

Totally. I made my own arrangement for guitar for that song, taking an intro from his Mystery White Boy concert and most of his version from Grace. Sounds really awesome on electric too, like, really smooth and ethereal. Pretty proud of my arrangement, only realised that Buckley used a capo when I saw the Live in Chicago DVD, but hey, no capo = more power to me I guess.

awp, I've got a few of their songs, if you're interested in spending 6+ minutes listening to one song at a time (hint: it's totally worth it).

And well, I'll be damned, they're releasing a new album soon? If they are, I'll definitely go buy it.

Hahaha.

You say that as if I'd consider that a long song.

A lot of my favourite bands have average track lengths of 8 minutes, or if you're Dream Theater or Opeth, 15 minutes.

Just earlier today I was listening to a song that was sixty minutes long. And it was incredible as it is every time I hear it.

I've heard songs longer than 80 minutes before.

Six is nothing.

When I go to visit my home away from home (I'm currently at my home away from home away from home working full time for school) I'll just "borrow" a few albums from my friend. No need to upload for my sake, but thank you for showing the interest.

Whoa. Dude, what the hell? o_0 I think I'd get bored while listening to something 80 minutes long. Either that or it's insanely epic and I'd love it.

Actually the 80 minute song is stoner/doom and tbqh I don't care for that genre as a whole so I didn't think much of it

the 60 minute song however is insanely epic and I love it.
