:edit: I fixed the text after I woke up. :edit:
I yesterday, I was hard resetting my ds for almost 13 hours in hope of getting a shiny Groudon. However, I read somewhere that it only works with soft resetting.

I just want to know whether or not I wasted a whole day and night.

I had been resetting about 832 times that night.

also, if you have any advice for me. please share them.

It makes no difference but hard powering off/on can wear out your system faster.

I've soft reset successfully for lots of shinies over the years. They are, in order:
Porygon (FR), Dratini (FR), Abra (FR), Drifloon (Pearl), Sceptile (Sapphire), Palkia (Pearl), Dialga (Diamond), Rotom (Pearl), Totodile (SS), Ho-oh (HG), Tepig (Black)

You mean the one you got in gen 2? ;)

Which game are you doing it on? If it's not Emerald then you should get your shiny eventually but it'll take a while - 1 in 8K chance, after all (mm's really dedicated, see). The reason I ask is because Emerald's RNG is fucked up so if you're doing it there then you need to vary your timing or else your efforts will be futile.

Pokemon Ruby
2738 sr and 36 hours.

Does your Ruby version's battery still work? If not, it degrades to act like Emerald. Also on Ruby/Sapphire/FR/LG, you should take a few steps and resave your game every couple dozen SRs.

The battery has run dry indeed. So what you're saying I can't find the shiny unless I do something different?

edit: after a little more research I found out that you can'ts oft reset for a shiny pokemon if your battery has run dry. GG wp summer break ^^

You could try replacing the battery. It's difficult since the battery is soldered to the cartridge. I did it and can provide more details if you need.

Otherwise you should use a different game like Soul Silver.

I could but then again, I've already wasted 5 days on this tit POKéMON.
