Save config/game settings periodically

I think that there should be a way for osu! to save all changed settings to file without requiring the game to enter the shut down sequence. What if osu! could detect unsaved settings every x minutes and then saves everything to file. This would help prevent setting loss when the game happens to crash or a sudden blue screen comes. It would make sure that settings that were deemed to interrupt performance if they were saved immediately would be saved during extended osu! sessions.

Some main things that don't tend to save.

Resolution/fullscreen setting (Last time i checked at least)
Collections
Local Offset
Universal Offset
Local scores/replays
Unsure if visual settings save immediately or not.
Chat tab management
Anything that can be set with an F-key

Do you actually crash regularly? My reports show hard crashes are *very* rare.

After recent events I had, I always keep a backup copy of my .cfg. Just in case.
Most of the stuff don't really change (except for collections if you update them every day) though.

Backing up your .cfg will not help with any osu! issues.

Also when I say "very rare" I mean from 500k+ sessions in a day there are only 50-60 hard crashes. This doesn't include blue screen errors, of course, which are out of my control.

I crash once per boot since one of the update in mid May. 1st spinner always lag when entering the game for the first time, but no more after that (till another reboot).

I don't know if I should call it crash or hang. osu just give black screen and the music keeps on playing. Have to kill it through task manager. Obviously the crash submission screen will never come up in this case.

Well I don't crash so often anymore, but I know that when my computer is overheating, it tends to lock up the screen. When my CPU gets overloaded, osu! sometimes fails to refresh and I have to end task it. Blue screens happen to me from time to time, especially after very long osu! sessions. Using openGl on my system will ensure an overheat and osu! lockup for some reason.

Personally it annoys me when I set something to fullscreen and then my game crashes and I have to reset it to fullscreen. But I guess that's an easy fix. There are not so easy fixes such as saved local scores and collections.

If this is not feasible, then it .doesn't affect me that much or often, but I thought that it would be nice to have a way to save my game settings without having to restart the game. A maintenance option would be sufficient if a periodic method is not worth it.

my osu! crashes more than i close it.
the crashes i get seem totally random, i might open a song in editor and it'll randomly crash.
