Installing just a cursor?

I like the normal skin of osu and the only thing I wanted to change was the cursor.

http://osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/97172
This was the osu cursor I was trying to install.

I took the right files of the cursor I wanted from the pack.
Created a new folder in the skins folder of osu.
I put the cursor pngs in the new folder.
I tried selecting them in the osu client, but nothing happens.

Then I tried this tutorial posted in the skinning tutorial sticky.
http://puu.sh/1MBV

It created a osu file in the skin folder which didn't do anything.
I opened the file with osu.
Nothing happens (No error messages appear)

I noticed that within the new folder I created their is a duplicate folder.

I have no idea where to go from here so any help would be appreciated.

osu > options > skin

change your skin there. also if your skin was already inside the skin folder you didn't need to make the .rar, you just need to load the skin in-game.

remember to check "prefer new default when skin behavior" or else you'll get the old spinners and stuff.

I selected the skin within the options and I'm still left with the default cursor.

Remember the cursor files have to be named "cursor.png" and "cursortrail.png".

Ok so in my skin folder of osu I have the following:

a Folder I created labeled "Cursor"
Within this folder I have the "cursor.png" and "cursortrail.png" labeled files.

Now I open my osu client and go to options.
I select the skin labeled Cursor and my desired cursor doesn't appear.

If that is the case I have no idea what's going on.

Do other skins work?

Yes I was able to install a skin via the updater and it displayed fine.

This is silly but it may work.

Replace the cursor from a working skin with the one you want, load it and verify it changes. If it does, delete everything else from the skin and just leave the cursor and see if it still works.

I really don't know what's wrong.

I found the fix to the problem

I thought the actual file name needed to be labeled "cursor.png" and "cursortrail.png" when it needed to be labeled "cursor" and "cursortrail"

Didn't realize this until I was trying your last solution and found that the cursor files were named differently.

Thanks a lot for your help and sorry for kind of being a little slow at realizing my mistakes. I raged when I found out the solution was so simple haha.
