stuck on 8th dan

a lot of people think 9th dan is really easy to jump from 8th, however, i am unable to clear anything in the dan except for disconnected trance, and for CTMEOY i nearly cleared it once but i am unable to get back to that accuracy level, making me completely unable to clear it for a while.

is there any people who have cleared 9th before and can give me some actual tips besides "play more" and "play more"? thanks in advance.

(btw i have tried doing 9th sample and reclearing 8th but it didn't seem to work)

As someone who has not cleared 9th, but is very close (-0.5%), I can say the advice is the same as any other dan. Find the skill that you lose acc on and practice that one consistently without playing the map in that dan. That way you can improve the skill to the level it needs to be, and avoid mindblock as well.

That isn't the only option either, because sometimes the maps in a dan are just not suited to your strengths. I'm really close to clearing Odoru Mizushibuki (Alpha tech), but I still can only barely get a 90% on rave 7 (10th tech), mainly because of the speed patterns. Same thing goes for things like TLD, because it has a lot of longjacking, which is a bit more niche than the average chord or speedjacking in most other dan maps. In cases like those, you're at a disadvantage, and it wouldn't be unwise to try and skip that dan. You could also try to practice that niche skillset, since that dan is kind of forcing you to get better, but that's up to you.

Lastly, you can try using rates. practice the maps individually (or the whole dan itself) on a lower rate like 0.9x or 0.95x. That way you can learn the patterns easier and not get too frustrated. It might also help to try 7th and 8th dan at a higher rate, since those will be at a similar skill level to 9th when uprated.

In any case, there is no "secret beat this dan strategy", so you just kinda have to choose whether you'll brute force it or try to play smart and efficient. Hope this helps!

my suggestion is just to stop worrying about dans, since they don't represent skill very well and depend on having the right skillset

for example, i really suck at chordjacks; i have never A'd paradigm shift (beta jack) and can't hp pass it consistently, but i have at least 96 on all the other maps

the highest i've cleared is 10th, but i wouldn't say i play tech or dump at a 10th dan level

those people who think 9th is a small jump from 8th may just be better at the skills that are more prevalent in 9th and worse at the ones which are needed in 8th

also, dans can easily drain your mental and stop you from having as much fun, which is likely to stall your improvement (which you're measuring with dans)

typically, if i can't clear a dan, i'll just forget about it for a while and play it again once i'm better

if you want to get better at these specific maps, it's the same as always; play other stuff with the same kinds of patterns as the maps you struggle on
