Can vote on the leaderboard/website.
You can vote just above the ingame leaderboard or on the website but you must have at least 1 play on the map. (Has to be a full playthrough also, not an incomplete play.)

Change vote
People's opinions over a map may change over time, so let a player change their vote if they want.

Vote on graveyarded beatmaps
Lets you rate the map similar to a ranked map. This is useful for people who like to play graveyarded maps and want to quickly distinguish the good from the bad. The voting will be deleted once the map is pending/wip again (and will be kept if loved), as the map is prone to change.

Edit: Removed toggle (and it was kinda too leftfield), and redid first suggestion. Some people made some good points now that I think about it, and it was originally what I was thinking anyways.

What's the point of forcing a player to play through a map to vote for it? It would be biased towards people who want to actually play the map (and means very long maps wont be voted for as much). Some players like myself review maps through the editor as well. I would just let anyone be able to vote at any point, if people vote because they're mad, they will. Don't have to waste people's time.
I disagree. Playing it offers one perspective of the map and viewing it through editor offers another. In the editor you can judge a map based on how it looks. However you will lack the the gameplay experience from playing the map; the judgement of the map based on how well you do, judgement based on the score you achieved, etc. Maps are made to be played on, after all. Because of this, rating the map should strictly be based on the gameplay experience.

Also many players dunno how to vote or don't because it's hidden under the results screen and it's forgettable. I think there'd be more votes on maps this way.
Yes this is an issue. Hopefully will be fixed with lazer.

Ehhh, sure why not.

Possible "curved" voting system
Players votes with more kudosu/maps ranked (or loved/approved, this signifies mapping experience) will be worth more than ones without, this will be toggleable of course for players only only care about the general opinion of a map, rather than from an experienced mapper's standpoint.
Experience can be indicative of what is not bad, but it is not indicative of what is wanted by the majority composed of players with varying preferences. Because of that, I believe doing this may do more harm than good.

The mapping and gameplay circles of osu are two parts separated by a huge sea of opinions. The general playerbase is likely to recommend and play maps that give large pp or is some kind of meme, idk. More experienced mappers are likely to recommend and appreciate maps that express interesting mapping techniques. The experienced players are likely to recommend and play maps that are good to train certain skills on.

Yes please

I might be wrong, but this request seems to be an attempt to address an issue of not being able to find quality maps. In which case I do not think, at least giving experienced mappers are greater voice in map rating, is a good solution to that problem. There just need to better tools to find the maps each player with their own preferences wants to find.

this is two different suggestions. the latter sounds great and in all likelihood will be added, waiting on redesigns of the beatmap web page to implemented for now. the former I'm not sure and it's potentially harmful for this system like abraker said.

kd or maps ranked has nothing to do with "experience", this false equivalence is prevelant enough in other systems of this game already. on top of that, curative ability is NOT the same as any of the skills a modder/mapper may or may not pick up as a result of their work.

While I do agree that playing through a map will add more accurate opinion of the map, I think the cons of how it is right now outweighs it. Only being available once you play through the map will just make the map have a lot less votes means it will be less accurate in my opinion.
I guess to add more on the first suggestion, you don't even have to actually play through the map to vote on it, you can just AFK and use no-fail. The way it is right now, the player doesn't even have to actually play the map anyways.

I know it's not definitive way to find the quality of the map, it's only mapping experience. It's toggleable because mappers may have different perspectives on a map than regular players. If there were a way to also account for experienced osu! players opinions I would, but as a person who maps a lot more I'm unsure. If you were to say that it isn't connected to how good they are at mapping at all, I think you're correct. It only signifies that they have made an effort to understand mapping more than the regular player.

This doesnt make any sense, what are you basing your vote/opinion on the map off of if you havent played the map? This completely devalues map votes, and it will turn into a mapper popularity oriented system. Everyone will vote for maps from mappers they like without even knowing if the map is good or not.

As it is right now, i really doubt that anyone is determined enough to afk a map with nf (wasting time) just to leave a vote on a map, when the user rating barely changes anything. The only reason theyd be that determined is if they love the map, and at that point theyd be playing it through anyway.

I'm not saying a player shouldn't play the map, just that they don't have to. This is more putting trust in the player. If they are voting on the map, we will assume they played it. if they forgot to vote after they played, no worries, they can rate it on the leaderboard or website. How is it already not a mapper popularity system by the way? If a person likes a map because they're a fan of the mapper... it's just how it is.
