so today I was playing some new mania maps for the first time but I was doing pretty good only a few misses, when I checked my performance some how I only gained 50 ranks and 0.3 pp. I don't know if this is happening to anyone else, getting less pp then you should be getting but I just think its strange.

this is called weighted pp. basically, if you get a score worth less pp than your top play, its not worth 100% of the pp you get from it.
lets say you have 100 100pp plays. your #1 play is worth 100pp, but your #100 play is only worth 1pp, because the lower your play is in your top plays, the less its worth to your total pp. this is why top players dont have 50k or 100k pp plays, and its why #1 score players arent #1 pp players

To expand on this, if you look at your top scores, you will see 2 pp numbers. The unweighted one, and the weighted one. First, your top plays are sorted by their unweighted pp value, then starting at the top play, every play after #1 is worth 0.95^n (5% less), where n is the score's rank in your top plays. So your top score is worth 100%, #2 is worth 95%, #3 is worth 0.95^2 or 90.25%, #4 is worth 85.7375%, etc.
