Don't know, go explore other forums, find things that you think are interesting, and talk about it
There is also off-topic forum, if you're into some wacky stuff, or the forum games, if you just want to have fun.
As for notification, go to home/account/edit and then go to the "Notifications" settings.
You could set two notifications for this, which is "automatically enable notifications on new forum topics that you create" and "topic reply".
