playing with/without hitsounds?

sorry if this is a dumb question, i just started playing mania a few weeks ago.
i was advised to play with silent hitsounds because most players don't need/don't use them; i'm wondering why that is. is it because experienced players don't have difficulties with their acc, or because there's a point of play where it no longer becomes viable to use them? as in, you're hitting so many keys that hitsounds would hinder your ability to listen to the song?

some players dont use them because they're loud and distracting. i personally use them for this reason, and also because they dont fit with the music most of the time. some people use hitsounds for feedback on their hits which they can compare to the music to hit more on time, though most people use their keytap sounds for this purpuse. if you like hearing a sound whenever you miss than some people put their effect audio on 5% or less to make the hitsounds much quieter and maintain the miss sound

once maps get fast enough the hitsounds become useless noise
besides I can hear my keyboard's tapping + touch feedback and that's enough

it depends but i normally have it off

I've played for years both with and without hitsounds. The only thing I do is make sure all my hitsounds start with as little silence as possible in order to minimize latency as much as possible.

I personally play with hitsounds turned on, preferring my own hitsounds unless a map is keysouned. My miss sound is pretty quiet though. I use hitsounds as an aid mostly because I play flashlight. When I want playing FL only, I often had hitsounds off.

Hitsounds can be a good said for timing when used well, but you need to be able to really listen carefully and use audio cues much more than most people tend to. Most people are heavily visually based rather than audio.
