I saw another thread but this one will be more focused.

I myself started with DDR/Stepmania and sampled a little Pop'n/IIDX. It was a miserable experience. I played stepmania pretty hardcore for about a year, mastering keyboard packs that are nigh but impossible on foot. Pump It Up Exceed and Exceed 2 were also nearby and still are a blast. Few years back Beatmania US popped up at my local Best Buy and I bought it and a Slim PS2 on a whim. I had alot of money to throw around in high school. From there it took off, I bought a Swap Magic disc and downloaded IIDX Red and before. Good times.

I kept up with the IIDX games, got caught up in a tracker for bemani (konami's rhythm game series) and just kept delving deeper into the hobby. Now I have a $600 Drummania Arcade Style Controller (Roland E-Drum Set), $250 Pop'n Desktop Arcade Controller, and my IIDX KOCs.

I don't have EBA but I'm enjoying Osu! more anyway. It's far superior to stepmania interface wise but still has a way to go.

I've played stepmania and frets on fire on my computer, but I've never really gotten "hooked" on either of them like I have with Osu!.

This map has been deleted on the request of its creator. It is no longer available.

One of my cousin's friends was a big DDR player and convinced her to buy one of the games. I played it over there and bought a copy for myself. I never got too good at DDR though.

After Guitar Hero came out I downloaded Frets on Fire and played that for a few weeks and eventually bought Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero 2. I got good enough at Guitar Hero to beat all the games on Expert difficulty.

Sometime last summer I was suddenly compelled to play some Beatmania IIDX. I downloaded a basic simulator and a few songs and played all summer. Now I've upgraded my simulator to Lunatic Rave and I have about 750 songs. I'm still not very good at IIDX, the hardest songs I can beat are 6 to 7 on the difficulty scale.

I'd heard about Elite Beat Agents and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! but I never had the chance to play them because I don't own a DS. My friend introduced me to osu! sometime last week.

Stepmania -> Audition -> 02jam -> Osu for me.

Never played real DDR, GH, Frets or any of those other games yall talking about. Last console I owned was a SNES.

I started out with DDR, then I took a a huge break from it, and played Donkey Konga, then got into Ouendan and EBA, then Daigasso Band Brothers, and now I play Drums in Rock Band. I play DDR once or twice a week at the arcade now.

I want to get into DanceManiax, but the closest one is in LA (hour drive)

My first rhythm game experience was Parappa The Rapper.

Kick, punch, it's all in the mind...

anyone ever play Space Channel 5?
Mogsy
I despise Space Channel 5.

I started with DDR, as well, and then got into SM and ITG. Pop'n came some time later. I play Osu! and SM now.

Taiko Drum Master for ds or the arcade version, Percussion Master is another drum game.

I started with StepMania, got hooked, and I wanted to try a machine dance game with a pad. So I got DDR Mario Mix when it was released. After playing it for about a month, I got bored, and bought a cheap dance pad from Lik-Sang that could be connected to a PC, and started playing StepMania again. Then I got bored again, and stopped playing rhythm games, until I found an incredibly cheap copy of Donkey Konga, which I had a blast with.
I also tried out Singstar at some convention, and it wasn't too bad, so I tried out Ultrastar, which was worthless with my mic. I now have a good headset, but I just can't get into the game. I've also tried Frets on Fire, which was fun for a while.

I then got EBA, and loved every second of it. So when I finished it, I tried out Ouendan 1, and at first, I hated it. It felt much harder, the music was bad, and it looked sort of ugly. After a while, however, I got used to the difficulty, and started to like the music in Ouendan 1. Then I played Ouendan 2, and loved it. When I then heard about osu! thanks to a topic on GameFAQs, I gave it a shot. It felt impossible to play Ouendan with the mouse at first, but then I got better, started to play more beatmaps, sneaked into the boards, and look at me now. Beatmap Mod, Beatmap Creator, Private Build-tester, and some other stuff. :3 I have been a bit inactive, though. IT'S MY EVIL SWEDISH-TEACHER'S FAULT, I TELL YA!! <_<"
I've recently bought ITGPC and a good dance pad, so I've started to machine dance again. I've also bought a guitar for the 360/PC, so I've been playing some Frets on Fire, GHIII and GHII, too.

Stepmania -> O2Jam -> DanceManiax -> Stepmania -> DJ MAX -> O2Jam -> DDR -> IIDX -> Audition -> Stepmania -> DDR -> Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! -> Guitar Hero -> Stepmania -> Osu!

In that order, chronologically as best as I could remember. Stepmania keeps pulling me back in.

Yay! Someone actually looked at my topic, after about 2 weeks there were like 2 posts, and it looks like it was deleted.

My story is a strange one. When I was younger, I hated Rhythm games. But one day I saw EBA on Gamespot, and thought I'd buy it. I bought it, and fell in love with it. I then imported Ouendan. (Which was a pain.) And now I love Rhythm games! Just goes to show you what EBA can do.

Oh, another Aud player. Sup! :P

DDR -> Donkey Konga -> Guitar hero -> Stepmania -> EBA -> Ouendan -> Ouendan 2 -> Osu -> Guitar Hero 3 (for Chistmas :))

I remember when I imported Ouendan, I liked it way better than EBA. Ouendan 2, however, had to grow on me before I appreciated it more.

I don't play it now...
But is is original.)

I still play rhythm games besides this lulz
Video of something I did today. :B I'm normally not this bad.

Osu is pretty much the only game I'm good at for some reason. I want to get Guitar Hero 3 soon, so hopefully I'll be able to learn that. But DDR and those type of games I absolutely can't do for my life.
Starrodkirby86
How do I not post in this!? I should chastise myself now...:(

In order of when I played:

DDR (Beginner), Donkey Konga, DDR (Heavy), Stepmania, O2Jam, Stepmania 4.0 (Online), EBA, Guitar Hero, IIDX Simulator, O2Mania, Pump it Up (Hard), Pump it Up (Crazy), Beatmania, Frets on Fire, Ouendan 2, Osu!

4th Grade -> 5th Grade (DKonga) -> 6th Grade (DDR HVY) -> 7th Grade (SM) -> 8th Grade (Now) (Beatmania)

---
Oh, the timeline isn't required huh? o,o
And inevitably you can see I am DDR and Stepmania mostly, but Osu! is very good for a simulator it is, but I already have that implied with the signature. :P

My first rhythm game was one of the music mini-games in either Mario Party 1/2. I loved playing Move to the Music, Toad's Bandstand, and The Beat Goes On. The rhythm mini-games in Incredible Crisis were pretty fun too. I'm not sure what my first real rhythm game was. The ones I've played are Space Channel 5 (both), Mad Maestro, Donkey Konga, Ouendan 1, DDR, EBA, Gitaroo Man, Guitar Hero, and Ouendan 2.

Minigames can be considered rhythm games in it's own catergory? :shock:

Then by all means, I would have to say Pokemon Stadium now is my first. Woohoo for Pokemans and Clefairy Says along with Snore Wars...XD XD XD.

Is Gitaroo Man and Mad Maestro really good? I hear Gitaroo Man got a pretty high area in this magazine extra I read and Mad Maestro was beautiful. Is this true or am I a confused person?

Good golly do I feel like I suck.

IIDX isn't that silly. It can be difficult, a lot of awesome songs are on there. The videos can be funny.

Pop'n'music is hard and silly, that fits. If silly you mean quirky, then yeah. :D

That's interesting, what you did there. :P

Uberagreed.

I just wish I could play Pop'n more. D:
Turbam!!!
I started out With Elite Beat Agents, and I fell in love with it. After that I got Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! and it took me a while, but I eventually fell in love with it as well. Then a friend let me play DDR and I fell in love with that too. I went over to a friends house and played Guitar Hero and I fell in love with that as well. Then one day at Gamestop I saw 2 Donkey Kong Barrels and decided to get Donkey Konga, I got Donkey Konga 2 latter and then fell in love with that series. Uh...I'm going to try to get GHIII for the Wii, and then DDR Hottest Party for the Wii. I may try out Samba de amigo (sp?)
awp
Hottest party was kind of neat. There's a few awesome songs in it from what I remember.

Do you have the game? I am very interested in tokyoEVOLVED and if it is difficult or not. From what I hear, Hottest Party isn't a very hard mix, but I'm starting also hear that tokyoEVOLVED has something very strange with it, besides the unpredictable step change. :P
awp
My brother has it, I gave it a spin for a few hours.

As far as difficulty goes, I don't know how hard the tracks are, but to win against the computer opponent (in the oneplayer "campaign" mode) you need to get AAs and AAAs for a lot of the songs. They really expect way too much.
Mogsy
I've noticed an utter lack of PiU players. x3 Probably because I'm the only one outside of the SM community I know of that sometimes plays it.

What do you mean?
I play Pump it Up. The closest PIU is an Xceed 2 at Chuck E Cheese's. My current difficulty is Crazy. :3

I played NX before, it was a very great mix. The arcade machine that was over there was like a flat panel arcade screen, one of those expensive machines, and it was very awesome. It had an easier grade system too. :D

I can't wait to play NX2. >w<
Mogsy
NX2. God dammit, an arcade needs to pop up around here again and actually HAVE RHYTHM GAMES BESIDES DDR.
