Put a file called inputoverlay-background@2x.png (or just inputoverlay-background.png if your osu! is below 1080p) into Photoshop or something similar
And then, just import the image (the anime character) and put it next to the key overlay

inputoverlay-background will be the one you're looking for.
Worth a note that the element ingame will be rotated 90 degree clockwise and stretched by 1.05. Idk why, ask peppy for that.
