Well, this is mainly for osu!mania, but a few people may think this idea good in other modes.
In osu!mania, a great deal of songs are key-sounded. That means the song (BGM) itself is incomplete without these hitsound on the notes.
You may have noticed the "only my raligun" song: https://osu.ppy.sh/s/63089
When you are listening to the MX difficulties, did you mention that the song is incomplete?
Though in this map, the song is not fully key-sounded, but I have a few examples (especially most BMS songs) have nearly nothing in background like https://osu.ppy.sh/s/79377
As current osu! doesn't have ability to play hitsounds in preview mode (And it is unnecessary for other modes), the simpliest way to make these key-sounded songs' preview meaningful is to first record a perfect play song and make the song, but not the BGM, as the preview song.
(One of the other solution is to play the song and hitsound together at preview - used in LR2 , but it is costly and players may wait up to 20s to get the preview.)
