I'd be fine with adding the option to post a comment along with a vote (although the forum thread is already there for that) but I don't agree with mandatory comments, and I'm strongly opposed to giving moderators the ability to delete votes. Beatmap rating is strictly a place to express how much you enjoyed playing a map. If they didn't enjoy it, they have a right to give it a one, and no obligation to explain themselves, in my opinion.

I agree with LuigiHann. Voting a map poorly doesn't make it a bad map, and doesn't deter people from playing it, usually.

But I would like an option to comment on a map after I've played it which automatically posts on the forums (for ranked and approved maps, and maybe others). Going to the forums myself is time-consuming (one, two, three, four clicks to get from the song selection screen to the forum post box for the selected song, assuming you're already logged into osu! on your browser), but a comment box (not button) would encourage me to comment. If I am bothered to vote, I am bothered enough to comment too.

I also hate people with the mentality THIS MAP IS RATED TO HIGH IM GONNA GIVE IT A ONE TO BRING IT DOWN TO ITS PROPER PLACE

On the other hand, i can see this being like youtube. By that, i mean a million useless comments like "Awesome!" or "CRAP!" Comments like these don't add to anything.
Disable stupid voters' ability to vote/comment, fuck yeah I'm in.

Well, this is just one of two ways I had in mind when talking to Minelli about the persistent issue of fucktarded players.

The other way which I didn't mention in order to suit his comment, would be to discard votes automatically from players who vote too low wayyyyyyy too often (and by that I mean something like, 19 out of 20 times a fucktard player votes a 1 and the one time he didn't it was a 2) and limit them from voting at all, though I don't see that this should be permanent in any way. So in that sense I'm following awp's idea as well.

Mandatory comment... if that adds complexity, I don't see why it doesn't deter the noobs. They'd go "huh wtf I have to explain why I voted a 4? Fuck that shit, I'm going with the lowest I can" which would then be 6, and then the damage control.

If you're going to ask that people have to leave a comment for only certain number, then I say a comment is necessary for ALL numbers. By your logic, stupid people would no longer vote, and the voting would then require at least a second's thought. This all sounds like an attempt to get maps rated higher more than anything to be quite honest.

Don't get me wrong. Some of this idea actually sounds good to me. But the way it's being approached seems to be trying to limit the users freedom to vote as they please. (and before you say anything, i know that's not your goal)
Gabi
lol xD. you're right

basicly at the end of the day, theres never gonna be a fair balance in the voting unless there are some drastic (sp?) changes.

Quite what I thought when I read others bashing these "fucktards" who choose only to vote on maps they honestly believe are horrible enough to deserve low scores. Sure, there are some, but who cares? The rating means nothing except the community's opinion. A low rating doesn't pull the map from being ranked, and a high rating doesn't pull it from approved to ranked. The map creator doesn't get any points or anything for good ratings, and for bad no points are lost.

the way i have seen it, most people (not all) vote for maps by this

"was i able to fc it?"
"did i like the song?"
Realize on your second point that the ratings are per beatmap set (song) and not per map. This is another issue, though. Personally, this isn't how I vote; I vote on how fun the map is. Many IOSYS maps I cannot dream of FC'ing in the coming months, but I still like them and enjoy playing them.

This is a game.

(You just lost the game, btw. And, I'm tired. x_x)

It sounds like you're making the assumption that stupid people can't/won't vote if a comment is required. If youtube is any evidence, I'd say stupid people love to voice their opinion.

Awp is right on the ball on that one. XD Stupid people would just go "AWESOME" or "CRAP" to get past it.

IMO, if you're going to have mandatory comments, make it for 1-3 only. 4-10 are self-explanatory; 4 means you didn't like the map much, 10 means you loved the map, so there is no point in putting comments in there. However, there is no reason why you should give anything lower than a 4 if the map was ranked fairly recently (like within the past year or so), since there's an approval process.

So, if you're voting for a 1 to a 3, you should have a good damn reason, so making you say that reason wouldn't be an issue, since you should already know why you're giving the map such a freaking low rating in the first place! *coughIfYouDon'tYou'reAnIdiotcough*

Making people give an explanation for 4s, 5s, 9s and 10s would be stupid though. I mean, seriously, really, really stupid. Those are self-explanatory; 4s and 5s mean they didn't like it very much, 9s and 10s means they loved the map. Mandatory comments for those ratings would just get on people's nerves, and make some of them stop voting altogether. ><; OR we'd have a bunch of "asdgsdagasdf" and "AWESOME!" and "THISMAPISSHIT!"

We all have our share of 1's and 2's on our maps, but honestly, it's not much of a big deal if you look at it. It's like what, one troll against a lot of people who voted fairly. In the long run, that one vote will vanish. It's kind of like how a player who gets 60% accuracy at the beginning goes on to get more than 90% in his prime.

*coughs* I'm not talking about myself.

Expand this with the ability to confirm your vote, I voted 1 for a few maps alot just because I didnt want to vote and just wanted to play another song. But I accidently click on the wrong star -,-

You know you don't HAVE to vote, right? You can just click the button at the bottom =.=

I don't agree with this. I think all users should have the freedom to vote no matter what their opinion is. If you don't like the rating your map got, then make one up in your head. Think of the rating as the overal satisfaction people had when playing your map - if they didn't like the song and voted low because of that, then so be it.

It's so easy to hit a star though when you're trying to skip through that screen.

Maybe the dialog order can be reorganised or a confirmation button can be added (there's another feature req. for this already), but I think that is not what we are talking about in this topic.
