Osu vs o2jam?

Hello I am new to osu and just had a few questions. I have been playing o2jam (and now o2mania) for a while and was wondering how the 7 key mode in osumania compares to o2jam difficulty wise. Also I was wondering if 7 key or 8 key is harder (though I assume 8 key) and which is more popular. I could be wrong but in playing a few songs it seems like o2jam has a higher difficulty but I don't have many songs for osu yet. Also is there any way to change the speed of the notes in osu? Thanks.
Lybydose
o2jam is harder because right now because we mostly only have autoconverted charts from standard mode. There are a few mania specific maps, but none as hard as the hardest o2jam.

8-key is harder, but no one really plays it, especially because you get less points on autoconverts, and you can just play LR2 instead.

Push ctrl and + or - to change note scrolling speed.

Also moved to a more relevant forum.

Auto-convert tends to favor 7-key, so most songs are in 7-key. Also, the only mania-specific maps right now are 4-key or 7-key (the mania-specific maps are obviously more difficult compared to the auto-converts, but as Lybydose said, they not at the difficulty of the harder songs of o2jam). 8-key is more difficult, but you get a score penalty for forcing a keycount than what the auto-convert assigned (and you can't force keycounts on mania-specific maps). And you can also use the F3/F4 keys to change scrolling speed.

What are auto-converted charts? And whats LR2? So should I focus my efforts on 7 key or 8 key? 8 key sounds fun but if nobody plays it maybe I will stick to 7 key.

Auto-converts are the charts that you get when playing a non-mania specific map. The game automatically converts standard-mode beatmaps into a playable mania-mode charts, which are nowhere near the quality of charts that were made specifically for mania-mode. Since there are only 3 maps so far that were designed specifically for mania mode, most of the stuff you'll find will be auto-converted.

I think you should focus more on 7-key, as there are little to no 8-key maps available right now, and 7-key seems to be everywhere.

After a bit of googling, I think he's talking about Lunatic Rave 2. It's apparently one of the best Beatmania IIDX simulators out there (IIDX is an arcade game similar to o2jam). That's probably something to try out if you're looking for a game like this, since osu!mania is still fairly new.

I hope they make more mania-specific maps, I think I have played one or two and they were fun. I understand it is still new though. And I am interested in downloading LR2 but the website is in Japanese so I don't know if theres an english version somewhere or what.

play 7K in osu!

We have a number of people working on osu!mania maps.

Here's a small list of some of the people who have mania maps uploaded.

7k is far more popular than most other key numbers, mostly because of how many o2jammers have moved to playing mania.

O2jam is hard although there are some beatmaps that can compare to o2jam charts like freedom dive FOUR DIMENSIONS (if only there is a mirror or random mod cause playing the same notes is bad in my experience from o2jam)
In osu mania there is this accuracy thing, I don`t play much easy songs because my accuracy is not that good.
Well, I hope they approve more osu mania beatmaps that are hard as o2jam charts! :)

I play osu!mania for the music ._.

To be completely honest most 7k beatmaps I've run across so far are just stupid chord bullshit with no streams and they're not really that hard. That's not to say I don't have hard beatmaps or ones with streams, people just don't do as much fast stuff as O2Jam had (I used to play the game a million years ago). Overall I'd say it's a good replacement for o2jam for sure, maybe I'm just not looking in the right places for osumania beatmaps.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the auto-converted maps. Any mapping issues with those have nothing to do with the mapper. As of the time of posting, there are only 14 songs with specifically-designed osu!mania maps.

I can't play o2jam because It's very lagging in my computer.

Here's some links to all the osu!mania specific maps, and some conversions.

Actually, as of now there are 22 ranked songs specifically made for Osu!mania, 7 listed as Mod Requests, 342 in Pending/Help and 1071 total submitted maps with mania difficulties. Not to mention that I have personally uploaded over 3GB of o2jam conversions, and Doorknob and Davteezy have uploaded 200+ BMS conversions. There's a lot more out there than you think. Just because something isn't ranked doesn't mean it's bad. People need to start playing unranked stuff.

Note that I posted this more than a month ago. My information is not incorrect. And I never said anything about the quality of unranked maps.
I was simply answering someone complaining about the quality of mania maps under the assumption that he was referring to autoconverted songs, since most of the maps people have easy access to aren't even mania maps and shouldn't be treated as such.
Bobbias
I didn't check how long ago it was, but the point there was that most of the good mania maps are not ranked yet. There are WAY more mania maps worth playing that are unranked than ranked right now, and I want people to stop only ever linking or sending people to the ranked maps.

I wasn't trying to offend you, I was trying to point out that you only mentioned 14 songs when there are way more than that (and certainly were then as well). It's nothing personal, I'm just sick of the fact that 95% of people who play this game barely even acknowledge that unranked maps exist, let alone play them, and the easiest way to make a change is to start mentioning them and linking people to them.
