We are happy to announce the Monthly Speedmapping Series 2021 (MSS 2021)!

Monthly Speedmapping Series (MSS) is a series of osu! speed beatmapping event taking place each month, aiming to promote the best and also the fastest mappers that can produce quality beatmaps in a very limited time frame.

Format

Season: One season of MSS expands throughout the entire year where there will be a contest in each month.

Contest: Each contest in a season will happen on the weekend of a specific week (announced one week before the contest). There will be a 3-hour timeframe to create your map. This means you have to submit your map within 3 hours after the release of the template osz. To maximize global participation, the timezone for each iteration of the contest will vary.

Songs: Each contest will have two songs available for mapping, which will be released at the same time. You can choose one and only one song to map. If submitting to both songs, only the submission with lower star difficulty will count as valid.

Participation

Discord: Participation requires joining the official discord of MSS at https://discord.gg/fVgU9pA (unless for special reasons such as not available at your region). The osz will be released in the corresponding channels in the server. Submission is done by sending your work to the submission collectors.

Academic Integrity: This contest is not a collaborative contest, therefore you must remain anonymous and cannot share your work with anyone other than the staff of MSS until the result is announced.

Mapping Rules: For your submission to be valid, you need to:
- Make sure the Creator field is changed to your osu! username.
- Keep the background, MP3, and metadata (except for creator and combo colors) intact. You are not allowed to add a storyboard or video.
- Follow the ranking criteria, except for inapplicable items such as spread.

Eligibility of Participation: To participate, you must have an unrestricted osu! account. Judges are not able to participate in the month/contest where they judge but they can participate the rest. Participants must follow the related general community rules, code of conduct and content rules.

Judging

Criteria: Each judge will score the submissions independently. Judges will not know the creator of the submissions.
Judging will be based on the criteria below (unit is 1%).:
- Expertise (0.5/30): How well does the submission demonstrate techniques regarding structure, music representation, flow, hitsounding, etc?
- Cohesion (0.5/30): How consistent is the submission regarding structure, music representation, flow, hitsounding, etc, especially between different sections?
- Creativity (0.5/30): How well does the submission show originality and uniqueness compared with the other submissions, with reasonable respect to the playability?
- Judge’s Impression (0.5/10): This is the part of the score left to the Judges’ personal preferences on the submission.
- Completeness (0.05x/1.0x): This will be applied as an overall scaling factor over the scores to reflect the completeness of the entry since this is a speedmapping contest.

Apart from scoring, judge will also provide 50 - 100 words remarks as feedback to the participants.

Standardization: The score will be standardized per the following method: The final score S* of a submission in the Qualifier Round is obtained by: S* = ( S - S(average) ) / SD, in which S is the Original Score, S(average) is the average of all Original Scores that a judge has given throughout the round and SD is the standard deviation of all Original Scores that a judge has given.

Leaderboard and Prize

Leaderboard: This contest features an annual leaderboard. Participating in each contest will earn your points for the leaderboard. The points you obtain from each contest is calculated as below:

Points = (1 - your_ranking_in_the_contest / (#Participants_in_this_contest + 1)) * lg(#Participants_in_this_contest))

Although there are 12 contests in one season (year), only the highest 6 points will be counted as we understand participants may not be available throughout the entire year. However, do try participating as much as you can to get a higher score!

Prize: At the end of a season, the highest 3 participants in the leaderboard will be granted prizes, including supporter tags (sponsors strongly welcomed!) and profile badge (to apply).
