Many users seem to be having problems with this new update, as it downloads a lot of new files and makes a lot of changes. If you're having problems, please read this thread first and make sure your issue isn't already listed here!

An error was encountered while downloading the file: *filename*
Disable your antivirus while you perform the update. Some antivirus software (Avira, AVG 2012, etc.) is known to false-positive match on osu! files.
osu! keeps trying to update over and over!
Run osume.exe in your osu! directory. If that doesn't help, replace your osu!.exe with this one.
I can't find the special modes any more!
Go into the standard osu! song select. There should be a new menu to the left of Mod Selection that will let you pick your game mode.
1. They're still not there!
  Make sure you have both osu!gameplay.dll and osu!ui.dll in your osu! directory.
2. I'm on a Mac!
  Sorry, but the new skin doesn't work correctly on Macs at the moment, and special modes are inaccessible by normal means. Please be patient for a fix!
Some elements are misaligned/not loading properly/using the old default!
Go into Options -> Skins tab and check "Prefer new default when skin not available". Note that this may cause some minor glitches with certain custom skins.
Where can I find the new default skin template?

If the updater stops at a certain point in downloading or writing (aswell known as substituting game's files), i recommend to all of you to delete your "C:\Users\USERNAMEGOESHERE\AppData\Local\Temp" without any browsers and osu! running. Before re-executing the updater, delete any corrupted downloaded files from your osu! folder. It works most of the time for me.

The new skin works fine on my os x install. Just sayin'.

Also it would seem for people who can't get the updater to download the new DLLs, that they won't download correctly in a web browser. I still have no idea why this his happening, but it may be due to virus scanner software, ISPs or similar. More details would be great.

The updating issue is virus scanner related. Avira needs to be uninstalled.

Just something that can help this Avira thingy: I have Avira and I can't uninstall it for several reasons and I was having that "malware alert" thing everytime I was trying to update osu! (which was asking for updating everytime I opened it), and it solved for me to delete the osu!gameplay.dll and run the updater again. Avira didn't block anything and the game is running okay.
(And as far as I've tried by now, it didn't ask me to update again)

I have no idea if it's a solution or anything, but it worked for me.

After I updated osu, I found that some songs' bitmap cannot be loaded successfully in standard mode. And I have no idea about it. I'll be very appreciated if you can tell me how to deal with this problem:)

It seems that Avira is not the only antivirus concerned by false positives anymore. I have AVG 2012 and I had a warning while downloading the latest update.

(Here the file in "Objet" column was identified as a virus while osu!.exe was downloading the update)

I am a Mac osu! user, and I am having several problems.

1. As mentioned, can't change the game mod to special game mods such as osu!mania.

I would like to ask why didn't you give mac users choice to not to update, or at least release the version after solving problem in test build.

2. I can't open any beat map after update, even in original osu! mode.

First, I tried to play a song, but It said 'could not be loaded successfully'. I thought all other songs, but it didn't work.
Afterward, I thought It was the problem from the beat maps or corrupted file located in songs.
So I re-installed osu! and replaced songs back. And It didn't read the songlist in the folder.
After opening osu!, tutorial was the only song I could see in the list. I tired multiple times to load the song list, but it didn't work.
I tried to play tutorial for a test, but it still said 'could not be loaded successfully'.

I hope these problems can be solved ASAP for all mac users of Osu!

It is different problem I guess. Unlike linked problem, everything just work fine, but the song cannot be loaded, and it immediately returns to song list.

Hi i have downloaded a Mac version of osu! and I'm not sure on how to install beatmaps which I've downloaded from the site to the game. I've downloaded a beat map and then pressed open with osu! and nothing happened, i've also tried this with a different song and nothing happened either. Can you tell me what i need to do because i don't want to keep downloaded songs if none of them are going to work, thanks

With this update, none of my beatmaps will load and osu! freezes. I do not know if others have experrienced this too but it is a problem for the Mac osu! version.

Hello.

I'm having an problem with the latest update.

After updating (the download patch thingy) completed (100%), there's a pop up saying that the error has occurred.
I restarted my PC and tried it again, and the same thing is occurring. (updating again and there's an pop up saying there's an error.)

The pop up says "Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154(REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)
System.Object CoCreateInstance(System.Guid ByRef, System.Object, Int32, System.Guid ByRef)"

I don't even know what that means, pop up also says that I should report about this on forum.. so I did. (Since I can't fix it.)

May be osu just need a manual download for the file that updated. So please can you give a link that can download this lastest update manual? not from osume app

Just disable it rightclicking the tray icon:

uninstall avira and buy eset endpoint worked for me!

You mean you can't click anymore? If so, press F10.

If you can't see your cursor at all, I suggest changing your renderer. Hold shift while osu! is starting and choose "no" when asked.

Since the last update osu! tries to update over and over again. It says, that it has to restart, to finish the update. But it's doing it over and over again. I tried all the things you said, but nothing really worked

What should I do now?
