Lessons are kind of intensive as is expected of an autonomous school (in Singapore, there are three kinds of school, private, autonomous, and public aka "neighbourhood" schools, and usually this is the prevalent order that decides the quality of schools from best to worst.), and in our first and second years we're taught Chinese Calligraphy. If you ask me to pick a brush to write something, though, all I can say is I still suck at Chinese Calligraphy.
In the third and fourth years, unless you belong to the lowest percentile of students, you will be asked to take up Higher Chinese which is basically a more text-intensive course. The meaning of language is kind of lost here though as everyone mugs to tackle the papers, not appreciate the language. The common shortfall of Singaporean education, as always.
