So my suggestion is to make osu!bancho open source. Then people would be able to host their own private servers.
The most osu is open source. And it would be nice if bancho is too. It would also reduce the load on the main bancho server.

Bancho is just a chat server, not the thing that processes scores from game. It will be possible to recompile osu!lazer to point to 3rd party servers anyway.

it was a long time ago and I don't know where to find proof of this, but peppy did say he would consider open-sourcing the old stuff when it's eventually no longer in use

I would really like this just for reference and to learn more about the game and its history.
