My suggestion is to let users set custom BPM values on maps (edit: just for sorting, not change the map in any way).

Some maps like http://osu.ppy.sh/b/133476 have 110 BPM, and mostly 1/4 notes. I myself prefer to single tap these notes, so the map for me effectively is 220 BPM. However, when sorting by BPM it is near true 110 BPM maps, and not 220 BPM maps, so it gets left out.

On the other hand there are maps like http://osu.ppy.sh/b/43582 which have only 1/1 and 1/2 notes, so effectively the map is half the BPM (130 in this case). However, since it's listed as 260 BPM map, it gets sorted near very fast maps, so again it's not where it should be and gets left out from slower maps.

The BPM value doesn't absolutely have to be user input. There could be toggles for each map like 2x BPM, 0.5x BPM, 1.5x BPM etc. This should be client-side.

edit2: dismissed my suggestions that are not relevant anymore (collections work nicely for those), also one suggestion has it's own thread now t/122614

what you means, like you can set your own speed when play a beatmap?

If I could understand this well (as in, user-defined BPM for sorting purpose), all of my support. If you're intending for it to change the map behavior (for example fixing old maps with wrong BPM), it's a nope.

It's just for sorting. No changes on the map itself.

In that case, yeah, I support this.
Even though no stars here =[

:) Maps with multiple BPMs has an most common BPM display now

but you can't sort by it. That's a problem.

Indeed, that's why i suggest to add a possibility to users to change by which BPM value to sort (lowest, most common, highest, etc.)
However that will not solve ALL the issues with BPM sorting, since some maps are mapped with only one BPM but using not 1/2 for singles and 1/4 for streams, but 1/4 for singles and 1/8 for streams. Bangarang and Kyoto are good examples. I believe they should be sorted as double their bpm just so they wouldn't be separated from similar maps. Right now they are next to slow true 110/87 bpm maps.

It seems logical to me that it should sort by most common by default. I think peppy hasn't gotten around to implementing it.

Also I want to say that adding double time /half time doesn't affect the list because every BPM gets changed by the same proportion. It's logical that the list wouldn't change at all.

Music tempo can make defining BPM difficult in certain cases. It might be worth implementing the ability to change how the game interprets the BPM either by half or by double it's most common. It's not out of the question, but probably would require some magic behind the scenes to make it work, because osu probably handles BPM related information from the same source. This would interfere with that simplicity.

Indeed, but the ability to multiply the BPM of a song by 1.5x would suddenly allow to change the list to users liking. When you are playing some map always with DT, wouldn't you want it to be sorted next to other maps you play with no mod but similar bpm? In the end it is just user preference, but i would enjoy the ability to do that.

My request doesn't have anything to do with music, it's all about the map. I consider bpm to be the speed of singles and streams (i consider standard as 1/2 for singles and 1/4 for streams). Some maps use different timings and thus gets sorted inaccordingly. The ability to change the bpm would let the user customize the list to their liking, and no maps would be left out just because they have unusual BPM.

Again, i am talking about changing just the BPM value which is used for sorting, not changing the map in any way.
