Okay since we all know how star rating can be inaccurate and sometimes bug to lower values when using higher difficulty settings, all I am asking is that somehow on the mania conversion still happens @5.0 star rating.
I have noticed that star ratings do influence how mania is converted, and quite heavily (one of my maps for example).
I will use my map as an example for this.
Currently the star rating in the highest diff is 5.0 and it converts to mania just fine, however if I raise HPdrain to 7 (which is the most balanced setting for standard on this map), then the star rating drops to 4.86. If you check how the map looks like in mania on 4.86 stars, you will be disappointed, because some patterns converted so well when it was still at 5.0, and those patterns now look bland. The pattern I have noticed this on is located on the 1 minute 14 second mark in the map, where on 5 stars it looks quite awesome, while on 4.86 stars looks just like any other pattern pretty much.
What I propose here is that before the mania conversion happens, it does a simple check (if possible). If higher difficulty settings reduce the star rating, it should use the highest star rating before it drops (to be more specific, my map has 5 stars with hp6 cs4 ar9 od8, and 4.86 stars with hp7 cs4 ar9 od8, so when I use hp7 cs4 ar9 od8 it should be read as 5.0 stars for the conversion to mania, instead of 4.86).
I am aware that this could break a lot of current maps, however if it's possible to introduce it to affect only a newer version of .osu files (which probably means a release of new .osu v), I believe this would be a worthy workaround.
Apologies for possible advertising.
P.S. or just fix how the star rating works, but that would influence all the maps unless some magical workarounds take place.
