No warmups, no fun allowed anymore huh

Couldn't you ask a team to 'lock in' their warmup map an X amount of days before the match?

You could let someone quickly check it for inappropriate stuff, hand it out to the opponent team beforehand so there is no possible long download and every player can decide for themselves if they think it's worthy of playing.
The experience has shown that people doesnt want to spoil the surprise and most of the warmups are uploaded in a time range of 1 hour to 5 mins before the match (there are people who literally wait to be in the room to upload the map).
Locking the map doesnt help too as some team warmups depends on what they wanna test and they might actually change opinion depending on who is available to play or if they dont feel confident on something in that moment.
The experience was based on that there wasn't any time limit to submit their warmups. By sharing the warmup link ONLY to the designated streamer, referees, and the opponent, the chance of it leaking out to livestream viewers and "spoiling the surprise" is pretty low imo. If they wanted to keep the surprise from the opponent... well... too bad. It's for the sake of smooth progression of the tourney.
Also, players uploading warmups right before the deadline is natural. However, it won't affect the tournament since you can set the deadline a few days before the match so that everyone involved would have already downloaded it.
For teams that use warmups strategically to test opponent's skills, it could be a bummer to not be able to apply the current situation to their choice, as you've mentioned. There's plenty of other resources that they can use though, such as the opponent's best plays, past matches, and so on, so I believe it won't affect them as much as you worried. And they won't have to worry about their own team composition, because it has no effect on match scores and its purpose is to just "warm up."

Finally, as a former player in the tournament and as a viewer, warmup is a GREAT way to pre-hype the players and the viewers if it's a "geniune" pick, or to just entertain the viewers and relax the nerves a bit before the match if it's a "meme" pick. Either way, it's a 7-year-old custom that everyone has accustomed to and enjoyed. Really hope you would reconsider and bring warmups back to the people who want it.
I agree with Jakads; warmups are great to create hype and entertainment for the viewers. So please reconsider this OWC to try out stricter rules for warmups instead of completely removing them. If the new rules don't work out, then remove them in OWC2021?
SUPERNOOB20
Bruh, I've never watched an OWC before. Been waiting all year long... just for warmups getting removed? D:

BTW, just noticed this is my first post ever in a forum WTF
Hana Uzaki
Warmups are not a must have, but removing them is like leaving a piece of history behind... I see why you guys think it had to be made, but to be franc, one of the most memorable moments of the OWC are the meme warmups, even if they are not very professional, it let's players have fun with the game before going full serious mode for the tournament and it eases viewers into the stream and builds up hype, going at it since the very start will feel like too much, too fast by comparison now...

Something that I am curious about is how the tactical timeout effects the match:

If for example the tactical timeout is called with a minute remaining of the map pick, does that pause the pick timer and allow teams to extend their pick time or do they still have to pick a map (within the initial 2 minute timer) and then the tactical timeout is used after the pick has been selected?

I'm delighted to see that the warmup discussion is being carried out in such a civil manner. Very proud! I'm positive that they will be back with time.

I don't doubt that this year's OWC will be another wild and exciting one! I wonder what the upsets will be.

See you in the Twitch chat! You're welcome to message me if you need any assistance. New or veteran, doesn't matter. I'm always happy to be of service!

They might be in the public Discord server linked above. If not, they should be available on the statistics sheet when it's made. That will be linked on the wiki page.

It is 4vs4, correct. More details can be found on the wiki page.

What's with the total lack of information on the wiki (or other official sources)? It's wednesday night and we have no
- qualifier results or stats
- RO32 mappool
- bracket

Only source of any official info that I've been able to find was the results/showcase livestream. You can't seriously expect that's sufficient.

Really starting to feel like this tournament has completely abandoned the spectators.

Feel free to ask questions and give feedback, but please avoid saying such unnecessary things. It's both rude and inaccurate. Since you have been involved as a staff member yourself quite a lot, you should know that staff are humans with their own circumstances. If you feel that you can contribute to improve things, you are always welcome to reach out.

I do agree that it would be proper for information to be added ASAP, which is not always possible. One reason is that reschedules can be requested until 23:59 UTC on Wednesdays (though a mistake in the wiki states otherwise right now) and to keep things less confusing, a bigger wiki update is being made once they have been settled. Let's be patient and respectful.

We are always working on improving things and if you compare the times they work to when they don't, things are running very smoothly as a whole, which is another reason to not throw out statements as soon as something is lacking.

You can usually find links faster through the Twitch channel, because I update them as soon as I have them myself, usually before the wiki updates are pushed. In case anyone wants to have the results quickly, the VOD is available.

Giving feedback through me personally or the Discord server is a possibility.

With that, please mind what you say. We always welcome feedback. All I'm asking for is keeping it as respectful and civil as possible.

Note: as of this post, the RO32 mappool has been updated onto the wiki, along with a link to a challonge bracket. So now we're "only" missing the actual qualifier results. A schedule was also updated, though it can't be considered final as the rescheduling window has not yet closed.

I don't think anything I said was unnecessary, or out of line. If you're so familiar with my contributions to the community, you'd know I don't censor my thoughts for the sake of your feelings. In fact, I find such an approach quite unpleasant and detrimental to the discourse.

If it's more people you need, just openly ask for more help. I saw many people make their own brackets, mappool listings, qualifier result tables etc. within hours of the showcase stream. It's not a lot of work, nor does it take any significant qualifications. Just. Ask. For. Help.
If it's the wiki update process itself that's the issue, then you need a secondary, actually functional platform for sharing info. I would suggest the OP of this thread, for example. The bottom line is, it's unacceptable to not have any of this stuff available this far into the week.

I specifically did not include lack of schedules in my OP, since I'm aware of the rescheduling rules (It would be fine to just have the match pairings listed with a TBD for the match times, for example). Those of us who actually need that info earlier, can generally get it by asking the relevant players for it.

This is only the second week of OWC2020, and both weeks we saw a major lapse in communication towards the public. I dearly hope it doesn't turn into 3 out of 3 next week, but surely you can see why some of us are sceptical at this point.

While I agree that feelings shouldn't be prioritized over facts, I am a strong believer of emotional intelligence. To claim that a tournament, aka the staff team, has "abandoned the spectators" over a wiki update is not only disproportionate but also incorrect, which was a point I had hoped you would pick up on as a member of staff yourself. That also answers why it might have come off as censoring, something I'm actively working against.

If you would consider yourself abandoning spectators over making a mistake, I find that unhealthy. If not, why would we?

The other situation (if we're thinking about the same one), I have no involvement in.

I think community driven contributions are great. At the same time, we are currently in a position where most links need to be hosted by our staff team for the channel and that goes for the wiki too. This is something I can bring up for discussion. For the discussion threads, it's not an issue at all. We have several areas that are always looking for more people and I recommended it to you personally since you are displeased with how things are being run right now. I believe in being the change you want to see. I am a moderator and that's the only area that I'm in change of, so anyone interested in helping has to reach out to our managers.

Knowing the internal circumstances, I don't think it's unacceptable. I do agree that things could work better and as I mentioned, we are always working towards improvement. If it's about bringing in staff for wiki commitment, then there's a process to it, which is outside of my area of responsibility.

I do understand the frustrations people are experiencing and I don't plan to brush their feelings off. I simply want a kinder world. We are all in this crazy world together and people are trying hard to balance their work with hosting tournaments and managing their personal lives. That's why I have an issue with statements like "Really starting to feel like this tournament has completely abandoned the spectators". It makes it sound intentional.

Us being understaffed is something that I have been aware off since I started almost 2 years ago and as I mentioned, it's not my thing to handle unless it's for the Twitch chat, so I can't comment more on that than I already have.

I hope this answers some of your thoughts and that we understand each other a little bit better. I do appreciate your points and civil manner, so thank you for that.

Oh wait, for the brackets, use this link instead: https://challonge.com/OWC_2020 (for those who are lazy to search on wiki)
The link I posted earlier is not founded on the osu! website.
For whatever reason, I think WalterToro created another link to the bracket...

Basically, this link, (most recent one), with an underscore symbol, _ , is founded on the osu! website while the link that was posted earlier without an underscore symbol is taken by someone else...

Does it bother anyone else that the tourney client on the stream has "ignore beatmap skins" enabled and as a result always has the default combo colours every map? I feel like that would be better turned off so the combo colours could look nice fitting with the beatmap backgrounds

Is their any other way we can see the matches that not getting streamed like a second stream for the matches that are in the exact same time slot.

The requirements are as follows:
-You need to sign up in time using the link in the news post.
-You need to be ranked #5000 or higher globally for the specific game mode.
-You cannot have violated the osu! community rules in the past 12 months.
-You will have to get picked by your country captain.

Example: home/news/2020-09-24-OWC-2020-registrations-open

Note that this might change for future cups, so always read the news posts properly.

The skins used in our streams are not currently public.

SilverCrocodile wrote:

The only way to catch the other matches right now is to watch the player streams, if available. Rescheduled matches (made by the teams) have less priority.

Blastbolt wrote:

Grand Finals is the last round. It will have a first match for 2nd place or better (the loser takes 3rd place). The match after that will decide the World Champion. This might help with clarification: https://challonge.com/OWC_2020

Currently we are in the finals right now and three teams remain. (Germany, Canada, and the U.S.) In this tournament if you lose once you get put into a losers bracket and you can still fight your way up to first but if you lose in the losers bracket you are eliminated from the tournament. The Germany and Canada have both been put into the losers bracket by the U.S. and are going to compete to see who gets a second chance against the U.S. The U.K. was put into the losers bracket by South Korea and then eliminated by Indonesia. This is also my first time watching and it has been really fun this year. I suggest you rewatch Japan vs Brazil because that was a insanely good match.

Those are not points, that's the country's "seed" (Canada is 2nd seed, Germany is 4th seed); refer to the Qualifier Results tab on the Statistics Sheet! :D
