I don't know if its gonna be good but adding "osu ver." on the title of the song you yourself personally edited or tracks that are shortened solely for the game would work to clearly distinguish that this cut version was made exclusively for this game. Kinda similar to how TV sizes work, they were shortened for the sake of their respective animes themselves, so I think putting "osu ver." would work also. It also helps to further promote the game.

I've edited a certain track (not the uploaded one) and trying to name it "short ver." seems really questionable since 1.) it could be mistaken as the official short version 2.) i have a subjective preference recently with adding "osu ver." after the title instead of "edit ver" or "cut ver."

Doesn't sound right since it implies its an official version (like the TV size you mentioned) when its clearly not.

hmm you got a point there but idk the implication is kinda fine since its eksclusively for the game. but dunno, maybe we'll get hit by copyright issue. if its gonna be that, we could put a disclaimer statement but considering theres been too many short vers goin round the game for the past few years i think "osu ver." would just slide through the hole just fine

Agree with Flanster here, "osu! ver" (or "osu! edit", just in case) implies it's 100% officially edit for osu!, under the artist's permission. This one, however, is not.

I think something along with "Unofficial" right away, like "Unofficial cut ver.", would be better.

then putting disclaimer somethin would just resolve the issue right. like at the description boks or at the beginning of the song. i think its same case with the usage of "short vers", theres impllication that its the official one. tbh adding the "unofficiial" in the title just makes it long and i dont like having a long title. im gettin the tldr feeling just lookin at it

"osu! ver" and other similar markers definitely sound like official cuts made for the game, way more so than "short ver" etc because we've already got some "osu! edit" markers in the FA listing

well that settles it

just use (Cut Ver.) on unofficial cuts.

i really don't wanna use no tags on the title for songs, because it feels misleading to tell the players that it's implied to be a full version, but it isn't, and it isn't tv size either

don't do that.

tbh i think we should have a way to distinguish unofficial cuts from full versions. and that way, bns can easily filter out maps based on song length, as some bns don't like cut versions at all. i don't see why we can regulate the (TV Size) tag, but not unofficial cut tags.

i don't agree with "osu! ver" tho because as people have said, it implies it's an official cut made for osu, and fa's have already used "osu! edit" for their songs (james landino being a primary example)

There's a reason people suggest stating cuts in tags or beatmap descriptions, this is just spawning the other thread about disclosing unofficial cuts.

The reasons other markers are standardized is so that things like -TV Mix- Are not misleading and such.

The only people who should be deciding on whether their music should be labeled with "osu! edit" are the artists themselves since osu! users are not the ones who are creating the media that's being labeled with "osu! edit" and it's not like there's a standard for it.

Anyways the only way I think this stuff would be relevant if it were required to be disclosed in tags as "cut" or "edited", every other proposal I've seen for this is almost missing the mark when it comes to understanding we can't just re-label music that isn't ours within good reason.

I've now made a github pull request related to this issue. As this thread is very similar to the other one about unofficial cuts I will be archiving this thread. Please add relevant discussion to the other thread as needed.
