Well it's a bit more than that. My laptop had a terrible resolution, so I needed to resize both pictures without losing any quality (so basic resizing would not have worked since the hexagonal background would've had a bad drop in quality.
And actually I intended the semi-opacity effect to give it a somewhat misty look, to go with the character of the picture.

I tend to forget to do that but it's actually a pretty clever technique, I could use it more often I guess.
