Intense pain jolts in arm

Was setting crazy top scores and passing huge milestones. Couldn’t stop playing, until a huge sting of pain went through my arm. I know, classic.

I always stretch before and after sessions, and usually take small breaks, but I was really on fire and didn’t want to lose my streak. Around halfway through playing a speed/endurance map this really stinging shock ran through my arm from my elbow to my wrist. I had some hand problems earlier in the year, but nothing with the whole arm. I stopped playing immediately in fear of it worsening, but it didn’t really help. It’s been around an hour or so, and every few minutes I get this excruciating pain throughout my arm, only lasting a fraction of a second. Took a warm bath to try to see if that would help, to no avail.

I know the basics: Don’t play osu for a few days, stretch, and use my arms less the next few days. Is there anything else I should do to ease the pain and prevent this from happening? Sorry for another “my arm hurts” post, appreciate the help.

if your hand starts to feel uncomfortable while playing mania, take a rest for an hour or 2. if you come back and you're still uncomfortable, just get off for the day. playing too much can cause injuries. play responsibly. trust me, your health and the function of your limbs is way more important then scores you set on mania.

I looked at the scores:

They're also primarily stamina oriented scores that you set, while all previous scores in your session werent overly stamina oriented. If you're going to push your limits on stamina, it would behoove you to warm up with stamina charts as well. not to mention it looks like you already had a long session before you started limit pushing.

nerve damage prolly, it can heal but it takes time , more or less depending on how much you goofed it. If the pain really bothers you go to a doctor and they may prescribe you pain relievers

aside from that all I can say is be more careful next time, if your body is clearly saying no, then stop

What an insight. I should warm up stamina before playing them, didn't think of that. Looking back now its common sense, but I guess you don't think straight when you're farming.

PositoniX and [Ska], I guess I just needed to hear that again. I used to be super conscious about hand pain because it took me out of the game for a few months last year, but I've gotten complacent again. Good to hear that the best remedy is still just taking a break. But man, nerve damage. You're scaring me here.

Today it was a much more dull pain that lingered for the entire day. Not sure if I'm getting used to it or its receding, but I hope that that's good news.

Yeah, you gotta learn the signs that tell you you need a break. I once had so much pain I couldn't even turn a doorknob with my right hand for 3 days after pushing things too hard. It was incredibly painful, but it was a good lesson. Since then I've been much more careful when I feel the beginning signs that I'm pushing things. Haven't had any issues since then.

I'm not a very experienced player so you don't need to listen or believe me. I've had wrist pain after constantly playing and setting top scores as well, and it sucks. Carpal tunnel is very possible from doing this, so there are a lot of sites online on ways to prevent or relieve pain. I usually rest my wrist/arm on the side of a desk facing upwards to let blood flow more easily and roll my wrists (since I pressed my wrist very hard against my desk , putting pressure on blood vessels while playing). This also causes really high blood pressure so you need to do this to lower it.

In general this hasn't happened to me again, only uncomfortable wrists once in a while. I prevent this from happening again by taking breaks at least in between 2-3 intense songs, 5 at most. It really isn't worth it to risk hurting yourself from playing too much at one time.

Looks like the golden rule is just to take it easy when in pain. Thanks again, all.
