Filters for multiplayer's "Quick Join"

This is a feature request. Feature requests can be voted up by supporters.

Just to keep new people out of your "pro" room without having to put a password.
It's no problem to kick them, but it gets annoying if they keep on entering your room because of the quick join function.

If there was a way to make your room unavailable for quick join it'll keep a lot of new people out.

Thanks to Sakura for inspiring this idea.

Private: Invites only.
Friends only: Only people you friended can see the room.
Hidden: Listed, but Quick Join can't let people join it.
Public: Same as it is right now, people can just join your room with Quick Join

It would be nice if there was a settings box in multiplayer that you could use to sort rooms for people that wanna use quick join.

Most multiplayer games have this method of hosting unlisted rooms (SC2 comes to mind first) which are great since people from your friendlist can still right click your name and join your room without having to ask you for a password and at the same time random people that the host didn't intend to make the room available for won't have to accidentally stumble across it in the multiplayer list and enter only to realize it's not a room for random play.

just need a little checkbox when creating a room [ ] Public Room, on by default, un-ticking it makes it hidden from the multiplayer list.

Maybe something like "Friends Only" (lol steam) that allows only people you're mutual friends with (or people in your friend list) to join and no one else can join, room wont be listed unless they are your friend as well.

Additionally "Private" or "Hidden" that only people that you invite can join.

Just throwing some ideas in there.

Tbh, when you mentioned steam, you also reminded me that I should play tf2 more often

IMO this suggestion is invalid. peppy is already considering making the Quick Join send people to rooms with similar pp ranges. I believe this is just a lazy way to restrict unwanted people from your room.

The main issue I have with your idea is you're not suggesting it as a benefit to the less experienced players accidentally being sent into a room above their skill level, you're suggesting it because it annoys you that inexperienced people are entering your room. This annoyance is avoidable by restricting the open spots in your room, or setting a password, although that's unnecessary.

Essentially you're suggesting a feature toggle instead of an improvement. An improvement to this system would be to set a minimum rank field to multiplayer games that would be optional. Then by accordance to the restrictions set, the quick join wouldn't place players into your room.

I wont tag this yet, but I doubt this is ever going to be optional.

This sounds really nice actually, as long as this doesn't meant lower ranks can't join regularly wit invites anymore.
For example I (rank #20k) make a room for people around rank 1 - 500, and I invite Aqo (rank #12k) to also play there, it'd be problematic if he couldn't join due to rank restrictions, so I think this thing should only apply to quick join

I kinda wonder if this is still needed as people tend to not read room names.
