I started out just making a skin that I thought looked nice, so I would have something to play on. Eventually I ended up skinning everything, so I figured I'd post it here for you guys. I literally had no purpose when making this, except to make something I liked the look of. If you like it too, good. If not, that's okay too.

It's a skin with lots of dark blobs, and some tactically placed images of Rumia. If you think there isn't enough Rumia, remember that she's the youkai of darkness. Every single one of those dark blobs has a Rumia hiding in it, so she's in almost every skin element - you just can't see her most of the time.

Download the latest version (1.1) as a zip here.

Much thanks go out to rogic, maker of the Darkness skin, which I stole the score font from.

A similar amount of thanks go to Xiao, maker of the Xi-style G2 skin, which I stole the taiko bar from.

Slightly more thanks go to MLGnom, who made the grade letters I forgot to credit him for, but didn't call me out on it. They're from his Reisen Udongein Inaba skin.

Props to Kuro for providing the special mode select background.

You know... I actually forgot that I had stolen and added a background to those. I'm impressed you noticed and knew which skin they were from, though.


I'm glad to get so many positive responses from you all. If you see anything that could be better, though, tell me. I'm slowly working on improving the skin as I play, every time I notice an improvement to make.

Good skin and everything, but.
Is it possible to fix that thing that when you selecting the song in songs list, the font of selected one wont become black? It is pretty annoying sometimes.

Rumia is currently at Lv. 1 : If you give her more animation she will level up! :P

Lv. 2 : Make her blink (easy)

Lv. 3 : Make her LEVITATE!! (normal)

Lol. I like the idea, but you're too naive! She has to say "So~ nano ka~?" when you combo break!

Anyone with a cute voice want to volunteer for making a sound clip for me? I don't think you want Rumia to sound like a bearded man who drinks too much coffee.

There's nothing wrong with the taiko hits. I removed them because I play taiko and don't want constant 300s messing up my bar. I guess I'll put some in when I V2 this skin, then just remove them again for myself.

EDIT - If you want taiko 300 hitbursts, here they are

I'm not sure what you mean. Every time I click a song in the song list, its font goes black. I actually wish there were a way to turn that off, so I could make the menu buttons blacker.

If you're referring to the screenshot I posted, the selected song has black font. I'm hovering over a different track, which is why that one's expanded but not blackened.

Add "SongSelectActiveText:255,255,255" into [Colour] section in skin.ini (select colour of your preference).

I've been going back and forth from your skinning tutorial constantly. You'd think I would have noticed that by now. Thanks :D

I'm not crying, I just have something in my eye...

I was trying to find the font you used but no luck and my photo editing software didn't support outerglow so I had to come up with a substitute so it wouldn't be blank.
+ Since you changed the buttons for the game modes into smaller transparent buttons I can add the cropped part back on and resize it because the default buttons were large and would cover up most of the background so I had to make a great sacrifice in order to make that fit but now I can fix it. \o/
When I find the right dimensions I'll add it to this post and show you the full scale image :)
EDIT: Here's what I was trying to do but those buttons were holding me back:
My original intentions
I extended the left and right sides disproportionally and resized the image to get it to fit just right \o/

I hate to say it, but I kinda liked your first one more. This one's pretty empty over at the right side, and when the buttons get put in the middle it just makes the emptiness even more apparent. Sad times

lmao, I realized after taking it for a test run :lol:

I wanted that bottom part to fit and I still wanted it to look nice but it looks like I couldn't have both. It's because of the original dimensions of the center strip.
Now if I was able to move them farther apart while keeping the original design it would fit better and buttons be in between the two but with my skill that would take too long :P

Also, can you you post special-background and the buttons so I can add them to the folder? :)

I didn't even think about aligning it to the right!
It reminds me of a Final Fantasy game I had, now my life is complete :'D

EDIT: I love the "BEST" folder you included. It will certainly come in handy when I only want to play taiko :lol:

There are some downsides. The buttons are still anchored at their original positions, but have massive transparent sections to appear where they are now. As a result, clicking pretty much anywhere on the screen will activate one of the buttons. That said, they do look pretty damn good.

Add some space around the digits. Why? Check http://osu.ppy.sh/ss/523884 and see what's going on in the top right corner. When the accuracy value's last digit is 0, it partially goes offscreen.

Also, you definitely need a custom comma image and non-transparent star2 one.

I cropped portions from the bottom of special-fruits and special-mania until special-mania was the same distance from the bottom as special-taiko is from the top and special-fruits was centered in between.

Like so:


The position of the cursor is as high as I can click on osu!mania before it highlights Catch the Beat. A little higher than before to make it less noticeable. :D

I think what you mean is I should decrease the text offset. Much less work than editing every number's sprite. Either way, I fixed it instead by adding a little padding to the invisible % sign that would normally be at that position.

Comma - Yes. I will fix it. How do you make the accuracy show with a comma instead of a period? I've never seen that before.

Star2 - No. Black parts of sprites are ignored by the program for star2, and having a bunch of white sparkles looks silly mixed with the rest of the skin.

I'd be happy to get it shown with a period, but our country uses comma as a decimal mark instead.

I'll move them both and spread them out farther to keep it symmetrical and probably get rid of that overlap as well

Edit:I put in a request to make the anchoring point for the buttons changeable. It'll probably be changeable in the skin.ini file as a set of co-ordinates.

Try setting it on autoplay and just watching the computer go for a bit. Maybe you're missing the combos that would come from that side, or just not noticing them? I just watched the computer play a song, and saw the bursts coming from both sides.

I'm still not sure how that's happening, or even if it's happening. What resolution do you play at, and is it windowed or fullscreen? Which mode are you playing in? Have you tried watching a perfect replay to just watch for the combo bursts popping out?

Bahhhhhh updates.

Once the proper resolutions get figured out by MLGnom et al, I'll fix mine up. Too busy with work and Christmas to play around with it myself right now :(

For now, just turning the ranking panel into a blank image gives passable results. You get the playfield image of rumia holding her arms out facing away from the viewer.
