Best way to start out mapping

I have played osu! for some time now and really wanted to start mapping songs, what is the best way to start out?
Like for instance a place where I could learn the controls in the mapping menu or the best way to calibrate songs, I have a hard time getting started, as everything is overwhelming, there are a lot of sliders and buttons to press.

watch roughly the first five minutes of this and just start mapping honestly

the best way to learn how the actual mapping stuff works is to just make some maps and try out all the tools in the editor to see what they do
