I'm putting the Microsoft Surface tablet on my Christmas list. One of the major selling points for me is the ability to take osu! with me when I leave my house. But I'm wondering, does osu! work on x86, RT, or both? I don't want to not be able to play osu! if I get one of these.

IIRC osu! won't work on RT.
// now you're not able

Windows 8 only.

Only on x86, NOT on any ARM based Windows 8 distro.

And AFAIK, the surface tablet will not be able to run the desktop version of osu! unfortunately for you.

That's wrong! There is a few different Types of Surface Tablets, the largest one is basically a notebook without a keyboard... and multi-touch of course...

The Pro comes out in Janurary, or it's supposed to. Knowing Microsoft, they'll make a pig's ear of it again. The RT will be useless for osu!, unless peppy decides to port osu! over or you fancy shelling out for osu!stream.

Look elsewhere if you want osu! on the go, possibly the 14 inch vivobook? It's not a convertible laptop, but it is a multitouch and a cheap one at that for $600-700. Spec wise it should run osu! fine and not be that big of a problem to carry around.

As it was said already, osu! will only run on Windows 8 machines. This only includes machines with either a x86 or x64 CPU architecture, since these are the only architectures Windows 8 can run on anyway...

Windows RT is not Windows 8. Windows RT is Windows RT, and Windows 8 is Windows 8. Windows RT is a version of Windows for ARM-based architectures, and will only run ARM-based code naively. osu! isn't ARM-based (at least currently).

The Windows 8 Pro Surface tablet can run osu!. The Windows RT Surface tablet cannot run osu! (currently).

Look's fine to me... but i don't like the type of front.
W8 Pro ver 9200

I've got Windows 8 x64 Pro and osu! works fine for me.
The only one it shouldn't work on would be Windows 8 RT

Windows 8 seems like it would be a good choice for osu players. But im still not buying it.
It is my duty as a gamer not to buy windows 8.
I actually wrote this on a friends Windows 8, coincedentally.

Also, finally, 100th post. I feel like a pro. A pro poster. However that works.

I don't see why Windows 8 would be a good choice for Osu players. It's basically Windows 7, but with much less support for everything, and a god awful Metro menu.

Wouldn't be a bad choice either. As with any new OS; support from developers won't be immediate (even though it really should; there's been how many leaks and official previews; developers had plenty of time to get their stuff up to par). And Metro is personal-preference. I find it usable, whereas the next guy would rather probably blow-up their $1000 PC and use some ancient pre-1999 machine before trying it (bashing stuff before trying it must be cool nowadays :p). And in any case, there's plenty of options, both free and paid for getting rid of Metro :p I bet you couldn't even tell this was Windows 8 just by looking at it, but it is. No Metro; Start Menu.

Windows 8 does offer some performance benefits as well, but most people overlook this.

In any case though, osu! does seem to work just fine on Windows 8 without any issue (at least on my end). Seems to work better if anything for me than Windows 7 (FPS is actually capped properly at 120 on Windows 8 for me instead of 145 on Windows 7, not that this was a real issue anyway).

I couldn't have said it better my self. I wish people would stop bashing it without even trying it or much less even have it. How can you talk about something when you know nothing about it? It just irks me when people do that.. :(

Ikr, same here.
As a matter of fact, you get even more games now than you would with Windows 7. :P
