Hey. I've been working on a faithful beatmap of Jumpin' Jack Flash, getting it as close to the real EBA version as possible (even using the (much more fun) EBA cover of the song), and I decided I'd make the colors match up too. however, I've run into a few problems.

First off, in EBA, the color starts off as yellow, whereas in Osu!, it starts on green, and I had to make 3 beat combos at the start of the beatmap in order to get the rest of the song to match up.

Second off, there are parts in the song where the colors change to something Osu! doesn't agree with. Often at the start of a section of the song, the color will be different than what Osu! chooses for me.

Third off, there are times when the lyrics of a song talk about certain things that indicate certain colors. Or what if you make certain shapes? If I make a Heart-shaped slider, I'd like it to be red, but it's a pain going back and changing combos elsewhere in the song. Or what if we have a song that talks about "feeling blue", and we want the beat that marks the word "blue" to always be a blue one?

So, simply, being able to choose the color of a beat combo would be a nice addition. I hope I dont seem picky or too obsessed about it, I just think it would be a good idea is all.

I don't think you should be able to change the colour of a combo midway through a song. It should always be in the same order.

However, it's possible to set custom colours manually at the moment. Open the .osu file and add (I normally do it under the [Metadata] section):
[Colours]
Combo1 : r,g,b
Combo2 : r,g,b
Combo3 : r,g,b
Combo4 : r,g,b
Where each "r,g,b" is a colour (eg. "255,0,0" is red)

The important thing to note is that the first colour that shows is actually "Combo2" and not "Combo1" as you might think.

Why? As I stated above, EBA didn't always adhere to the pattern strictly, it deviates from time to time. I didn't notice at all until I started making this beatmap. I really don't see any reasons why having a strict pattern would be better.

Oh, thanks, I didn't know that. It wont fix my problem entirely though.

This would be a huge design change, but depending on how much support there is for it, I will consider implementation. I think its realtively low priority, though.

This sounds like a good idea, but I think that there should be more than just 4 colors.
