Hello, I'm chxu.
I main Etterna, and I've come here to improve LN / SV skills and to meet new people.
I'm about 27 on Etterna, which would place me at around 10th dan.

(1) What specific strategies do you use to time long note releases?
If the map isn't too hard, I can usually get good accuracy. But I simply can't do LN's for the life of me. I'm most comfortable with the StepOsuMania skin, so if you could give me specific advice related to that particular skin, that would be much appreciated!

(2) What are the relevant US mania discord servers out there?
I was on hubmania for a while, but I'd like to know of other places relevant to the US community to join and talk to people.

Okay, that's all. Pce

For LNs, the key is to release on time. In order to release on time, you basically have to start releasing a BIT earlier than you actually think you do. There's no magical 'do this and your acc on LNs will be better' tip. Sure, there could be some kind of graphical cue based on the exact skin you use, but even that changes depending on things like your monitor's size, scroll speed, distance between eyes and monitor, and probably other factors.

If you're not already using it, enable the error bar in settings, experiment with different ways of releasing the LNs and watch your replays, looking for which methods seem to work best.

If the issue isn't strictly release accuracy on LNs, the key to actually getting good at them is practice. Find maps that use different kinds of LN patterns and play them more often. Don't retry over and over, just play them once and move on, but do it like every time you play mania. And make sure you've got a nice big list of ones to play so you're not playing the same few maps over and over because pattern diversity is important. When you play the same map over and over you begin to memorize it, and you will either memorize bad technique on it, leading to a lack of improvement, or you will end up getting better at those maps, but not at others.
