Isshiki Kaname proposes a problem involving simultaneous equations in three variables with eight distinct solutions. The equations were most likely either a triple of even-degree polynomials, or closely related to trig. Sure enough, she mentioned Chebyshev polynomials. It's weird to set a question as such though, since appealing to Chebyshev is typically more useful for calculus than algebra.

I assume you know how to find the mean and median. The median is a better measure when there are outliers which skew the mean. If you take four people whose salaries are 6k, 6k, 6k and 14k, the three 6k people would be mad if you reported the mean income of the group as 8k. As a side note, there are some cases where the mean and median of a data set are very close, but it doesn't quite paint the full picture. What else would you use to describe the data in such a case?

perhaps it was that nationalist anxiety hitting again? dunno honestly. it's reasonable to think that was what happened there, but there's also a chance of me just wanting to participate in the thread without having much thought into what "they are watching" could hint at with all of my.. uhh.. instabilities(?) being held into context.
