(writing this at the end) this is a mess i'm sorry uhhh not sure if i should add a rant tag at this point

tech focused forums specifically, it's so bad, i really don't understand, if you dare take up a column with a 0.1% not quality post (missing a TINY bit of info that you can usually figure out yourself reading it OR like me, you're un-knowledged) you'll get backhanded or rude comments and occasionally no help (or something else negative- idk)

i don't mean to sound like i'm whining over a bad experience looking for validation as if i'm in the wrong, less than a quarter of this is my own experience and i'm planning to post soon so i'm scared, i really want a bug fixed on wine (a software) but i don't know... even without this harsh-ness it'll feel bad

i don't even know what to say here, the title sums it up and everything i think of typing right now has no value and just contributes to a personal story which also has no value, i'll post this how it is

i also could explain the post i'm going to make but i dunno... it's kinda embarrassing, wether it's about how the post would actually be fine or because it's fine but also stupid at the same time somehow

Well tbf it is the internet so everyone would be saying stuff they normally wouldn't be saying irl. There is a good chance that peoples you find on forums have been on that forum for a long time thus making them quite knowledge on the forum's content so when some beginner go on to post about a question, they might make the assumption that you should know these stuff. Asking a simple question don't make you dumb, they just expect you to be smarter cause in their expert eyes, these are all "beginner stuff". Also especially in tech/coding forums, people are typically quite negative due to the saturating market and their own experiences.
Don't let an online insult stop you from asking question, even if nine people call you dumb, there is probably at least one that will answer your question.

by the nature of forums it’s dedicated for longer replies that doesn’t need to be in time, not the best place for real-time multiple rounds of q&a, so forum posts are most efficient for more in-depth discussions, best if people could exchange their opinions

that explains why the tolerance is low for questions without thought processes. it’s too lazy. it’s only lips-touching effort for throwing the question but requires quite some explanations that are both long and basic

my suggestion is that simple questions could go to discord if you insist on asking rather than finding out yourself

It very much depends on the forum itself. Some forums are more friendly, some aren't. It all depends on how the people who habit it act and the moderation team on how they deal with cases and what they consider as cases. On this very forum, Off-Topic is much relaxed moderation wise, thus you will find posts that, I imagine, you would find are quite harsh or toxic. Here, things are ran a bit more strictly, I find. There's also the fact that text and tone don't come together sadly, and thus, online interactions sometimes feel harsher than if they were in person, simply because non-verbal communications gives out so much context around what's being said.

With tech forums, I've found that sometimes, it isn't that people don't want to help, but rather the OP posted so little information or the problem has been already answered a million times or the people there simply don't know, that people there usually point to either a FAQ on the forum on how to post your problem or to a wiki post regarding your problem or some other forum post regarding your issue and its fix.

You said you have a problem with Wine. What's that problem? I might be able to help you out.

i agree and not sure what else to say, i agree unnecessary back and forth or small questions don't belong but when there's effort put in and something is a little off, you might as well not even tried

i actually did go to discord about the issue i'm talking about and spend a lot of time messing with things, nobody could really help and it's a genuine bug (you can read more below but i dunno if you'll understand what i'm talking about exactly - there is a very real thought process and i've spent probably over 10 hours in total testing, talking to people and getting them to test while the game was a free demo, searching the internet/discord and yknow)

yeah the faq stuff or giving barely any info i understand but again i dunno what to say, i guess it is how things are

my issue with wine is that a new game (rivals of aether II) was released and on proton/wine, the keyboard doesn't work after skipping the opening scene no matter what you tried to fix it (not sure how to mention my response to that other guy about how much i've tried but trust me, me and everyone else with this problem tried everything)

from what i've heard it has something to do with the multi keyboard support and that there was a hotfix for proton recently that fixed the problem and because everyone is on linux i'm left to report it

my problems even after talking in discords:
- the game is only on steam and from what i've tried, i can't get it to generate a log, it stops when steam starts launching the game
- the game isn't free https://store.steampowered.com/app/2217000/Rivals_of_Aether_II/ so i feel a log is mandatory but even searching google or inside a mac gaming discord, no answer or question like that to be found
- i don't know how helpful just giving this https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/commits/bleeding-edge/page is, i can't find a wine discord so the closest i got was a knowledgeable guy which showed me this, they don't really know but they told me "you could probably just mention "it got fixed in the hotfix branch of proton between the 20th and 24th" and you'll be fine" but ehh

basically i know nothing but the issue is really there and i plan to make something with stuff a normal bug report has then explain everything, tell them what i've tried... without a log... and explain the thing with proton and how maybe they can do the same but i feel like the person in your example of "OP posted so little information" when i'm struggling to find any even though a fix is literally there

Firstly, you're on Mac? With the way you phrased it, it makes me believe that you're on Mac, in which case, I can't really help you.

Secondly, if you aren't on Mac and instead on Linux, have you checked ProtonDB's page for the game? There's someone who reported this issue a week ago, when the game was readying up for launch and most people recommend you switch over to Proton Experimental, which you can easily from Steam's settings, under the Compatibility tab.

yeah i'm on mac, wine is sort of the same thing but i understand

i never checked that but it seems the same as what i've found in the game discord, when the game was readying up for launch, nobody could figure out how to get the keyboard working as you can see by birb 2 weeks ago (which is who i talked to lol), just under 2 days ago the game was released, there's another comment there by Izzu a day ago saying the keyboard works

during those 2 weeks, proton experimental did nothing otherwise there wouldn't of been a problem for linux users, the only way to fix it is to use proton hotfix unless you're fine using a controller... i don't know why they said it works out of the box but everyone on discord is finding proton hotfix works

only 1 example but it doesn't matter ig

not sure how to make this clear and i just woke up but it's written now - basically experimental may run the game better and that's why everyone says to use it but keyboards still won't work that way

so it's fixed on proton and by proton but it's not going to go anywhere on wine (unless they decide to fix it for some reason or another game has a problem with multi keyboard support)
