So I wanted to know if anyone else wants a version of this game that works online. Online in the sense that it doesn't need to be downloaded, and can be play in-browser. Maybe something with a few less features.

An official version of this will never happen as it will require a 3rd complete rewrite to make it runnable inside browser. I think ppy will go insane before that happens.

not to be rude, but please explain why you see this as a potential idea.
Maze
The game would be probably unplayable due to low fps and huge latency. Also there's no real benefit of running it in the browser.
Someone made something like this before http://www.osu-web.com/

I just thought it would be interesting to be able to play on devices like chromebooks.

I doubt this will happen. Players also have to download stuff everytime they restart their game, which is a pain both for the players and the server bandwidth.

Since chromebooks can run Android apps you can just go with opsu! in this case.

you just enable Dev mode on your ChromeBook and you hava play store, then you download Opsu!

that's a great idea. I could play osu also at school, without downloading it.

osu is portable so you can just squeeze it into a usb dive and play it there without leaving a trace in the hard drive

I just learned web development and I'll see what I can do since I'm pretty bored rn. Probably gonna take like a month until I release it tho (or 2).

Also, I know http://www.osu-web.com/ is a thing but I'm going to try to make it better (its kinda shitty ngl)
abraker
Maybe someone daring and adventurous enough can try make osu!lazer work via WebAssembly

It already exists! It is http://osugame.online/ and it has all the beatmaps that osu has, except online. Gameplay is basically osu also! Check it out

I want thing like that. Would be cool to just play on your free time not needing to open and close osu and you can multitask.

I don't support this. Pretty much some posts above already explained it:

1. To have it runnable on web it has to be coded once again. With the current build and Lazer build peppy's mind would have been exploded already.

2. You have to download maps from the web once again everytime you close the game and start again (it's a community based game btw) which hurts on both side, players and server bandwidth perspetive. "HoW AbOuT JuSt BuNdLe MaPs ThEn?" Keep in mind that what makes the game still interesting is the almost unlimited choices of songs and maps to download and add in real time, and simply remove that just feels pointless.

3. Lags. Delays. This is a rhythm game, where even a ms off can be infuriating. You can't really enjoy the game when lags just spike randomly while you are playing right?

Overall, decent idea, but idk how practical it would be.

I guess you could simply just get Opsu since chromebooks have playstore

Also there is a more accurate version of osu! online but it's in chinese so people who don't understand chinese must translate it (It's really good tho)

I think that you can play osu! on Chromebook using the ppy's official osu!lazer android or linux client.

Also, i love the idea of building a osu! inside browser.

You can run osu!lazer on chromebooks. Just enable Linux in settings, download the AppImage, make it executable, run it and you are done!
