Tapping is hard

I feel like my tapping is subpar in relation to my other fundamental skillsets (aiming and reading). As a result, my option on speedy maps were limited, stream-heavy maps were also a huge challenge, Both ar >10 DT and HR for being od 10 is harder than it should be, and I have a hard time keeping my UR stable.

I noticed that I have tendency to tap slightly late. It might have to do with my fingers being weak and unresponsive to tap as I anticipated. I tried to curl my hand a bit but it makes my tapping even more inconsistent now the nail is hitting the keycap instead of my fingertips.

What can I try to do to perhaps alleviate this problem? I'm sensing that it's a fundamental problem where I might tap not as smooth and effortless as I supposed to.

Grind out more stream/speed maps and your tapping skill will naturally improve over time.

I have to say, stream and speed is a curse on my osu career. 180-190 bpm stream maps seems to be my limit but yeah, I can try

if you have issues with your ur bar being at too late all the time you can experiment with offset, if your ur is just unstable then unloko get on the grind

also jumping straight to speed (240+) is probably a bit suboptimal
i would reccomend something a bit slower
if you can long burst 200 you can prolly short burst 215 without killing your fingers

i jumped straight to 270 from 200 and had to take a break few months ago

also if your ur starts being freaky and you start fingerlocking dont push it, just take a break and/or go lower bpm

not telling you to get perfect acc but dont overdo it

I think I’m a bit of the opposite where my aim/reading skill is way behind my tapping. OD 10 (and AR over 10) is pretty hard and I wouldn’t expect somebody at your rank to be able to play it well, though start with maps that have simple rhythms if you want to get into HR. There are three main things I think are relevant for tapping: technique, accuracy/finger control, and stamina/speed. For technique, make sure you’re not tensing your arm or fingers when you tap, you can tap hard if you want, just without unnecessary tension. Another thing is to check if you’re galloping (if you have staggered inputs like z-x-release instead of z-release-x-release), it can be a problem if you find it’s happening all the time and is hurting your finger control/stamina/accuracy. Learning to tap in a way which works when alternating on one key (I.e: shift key) is the only way I know of how to fix it. Accuracy and finger control is basically just learning to predict/memorise the rhythm of maps. I.e: you first learn basic 1-1 rhythms on super low stars, then 1-2 on jumps and linear patterns, 1-4 on streams/bursts/doubles etc. and so on. Having good accuracy is being good at knowing what sequence and spacing of rhythms each pattern is and being able to execute them well. If you prioritise/try to improve your accuracy on scores and work your way up to more complex rhythms & longer streams, you (hopefully) won’t have any issues with finger control. Stamina and speed are probably what you’d expect, grind maps which drain your stamina, but don’t tense your arm or fingers to try and brute force it, it probably won’t work for improving stamina at least since it’s more a matter of making your tapping more efficient.

If you tap late, its not because your finger is weak. It's a mistimed tap. Haven't stalked your profile but chances are you don't do HD at all. All that I'm implying is that you literally sightreads everything and not really listening to the audio.

Secondly, don't try to change forms too often. Use what you're most comfortable. Different from Taiko which I play, I tried adopting too many forms throughout my careers and nothing seem to work. Let's say I can play shinchikuhome style but I won't have enough control for tech unlike the guy. Tried playing like tasuke912 but my acc drops and I can't stream at all and once again unlike the guy. When I finally found my form it feels just right.

I also get this idea where you're real thirsty for pp and or while lacking patience.

Listen out, everybody has something they're good at. In your case it might or might not be speed so don't get discouraged.

Now for the solutions, you can do: HD or DT more often. Secondly, try getting better acc at something that you can do well. Anything 97% and below to something like 98.5^%. Playing songs that you really get the feel also helps. Incidentally, I just got back from a long hiatus and I had the same problem. You just need to readjust and the options above are just few of many ways.

Good Luck

I'm fine with Offset on 0. Other than that, Yeah. I might need to do more speedy maps

I can see that. My arm is complete fine. There's no soreness or pain ever when I play. I also agree on your point for accuracy and finger control. This is my usual approach when it comes to alt and tech. So perhaps somthing to do with my technique being subpar

I listen to the music, I won't be playing tech, low AR, and EZ if I'm not otherwise cause how else are you going to anticipate tough patterns ahead?

If I wanted PP, I'd be spamming sotarks and also similar mappers. I don't want to chase after rank too much

You're right on HD though. I only play with HD once in a while, often when I'm confident for farming, or for extra challenge reading EZHD. I can see myself benefited for playing more HD. THough on DT, I inheritely dislike playing DT to be honest. Just limited to farming but.. yeah

I don't really think hd would help, but maybe that's just me.
