DO NOT
- Use numbers in your name; it's typical and unoriginal.
- Use terms in your name that can be used as derogatory against you; I can guarantee it will end badly if you use it.
- Use other people's usernames, replacing a letter or two with 1337 (Leet) symbols; Characters and numbers (|-| = H, |\| = N), because that's going to be really stupid; You ARE going to regret putting your name as "Blu3 Dr4g0n" or "p3ppy".
If you're well known, you will confuse and anger peopleKitsunemimi wrote:
Actually I'd also advise against changing to something that's.. well... different from your original name, unless you really want to, you're fully ready, and some of your friends understand you.
I can confirm this. I tried to hide by changing my username. Didn't quite work; they found out somehow. So then I gave up and used IRC with "Ekaru" as my user name until the mass name rollback occurred (which will probably never happen ever again). Now all is well.awp wrote:

Just seems like such a trivial thing to get angry about.

It's this sort of psychological tendency that's unavoidable, people will tend to gain a bond to a short 10-letter string, and when you overwrite that string completely with a totally different set of letters, they don't react very nicely.

Some did. Honestly, it was more along the lines of annoyance in general. Whenever I'd talk in the chat, some new guy would say "WEEGEE VS WEEGEE OMG THE WORLD WILL END".Shellghost wrote:

And it's not annoying as fuck, it's the same as having a name in any other language. You wouldn't bitch at someone who has a language preference for their name would you?
Even if you're addressing the weeaboos who originally didn't have Japanese names, people can have their own choices. Having a name with romaji isn't annoying/offensive to the general public, only a range of people, therefore I think this is a bad suggestion.

Putting "osu" in your name just ruins it entirely. If I HAVE to explain, it's because that's the game you're playing, which means you didn't even have the "originality" to remember a favorite series. It's unoriginal but it's better than using the name of the franchise of the website you're using in your username, that's for sure. Imagine if I were on YouTube and I put my username down as "YouTuber". How bad do you think that would be?
The awesomeness of a person has absolutely no correlation to how original their username is.Kitsunemimi wrote:

IMO minor namechanges like this one (WTS 92 from my nick) could be done for free. It's not like I'm picking new name, just ridding off of something unnecessary (yeah, I made a fail during registration).Randy96 wrote:

All of the examples you posted are of either not well-known users, or took place after the first week name changes were allowed, after the rollback occurred and there were less chaos. That's all there is to it.

Plus, it doesn't matter if it was after the first week or not, people should only change their nicknames if they have a good reason to.

TRY to make sure that your name is one of the only of its variety. If everyone goes around pulling ten letters out of a Scrabble Tile bag, we're going to have a full army of Esupanitixes. And considering how I act, you DON'T WANT THAT.I tried that, and I got TBTE in it
