...That's the first and last time you'll see me type that introduction on the osu! forums.

Why that name?

In other places on the Internet--especially Discord--you may know me as @m1n3r_spl (and/or @m1n0rm1n3r in places where I can't (or haven't bothered to) change it).

For many months now, I've been considering rebranding to a more memorable, less "was-taken"-y name, like PickSquid Productions, and naming my osu! account under that banner, I suppose, is my first committed step in that process.
This name comes from two of the biggest games of my youth (and now adulthood): Minecraft (the Pick), and later, Splatoon (the Squid).

Who am I?

I was born and raised in a US state particularly well-known for its abundance of root vegetable crops and minerals.

Since before I could even read, I was absolutely fascinated by the little things that people tend to pay little mind to, and how they work to make modern society possible.
I almost always try to get straight to the point--no smalltalk, no busywork, no pointless sugar-coating--if it doesn't have significance and isn't particularly interesting, I'm gone. This...didn't reflect well in my performance at school.
I tend to keep to myself, but once we get to know each other, prepare for me to nerd out and show my sliver of competitiveness.

Why osu!?

Partly because: it's one of a handful of games that actually run OK on Linux. (THE FINALS, I'm looking at you)

Calling osu! a 2D AimLab set to music would be reductive, but...annoyingly accurate.
In that vein, as an online shooter player, osu! provides predictability that lets you focus on raw mechanics--no human factor but your own, no problematic network lag--it's just you and a pattern of clicks and drags to follow to the beat.

I've always been a proponent of open-source software (like osu! since 2017 with lazer). Open-source software is developed not by one person, or a small team, but the entire world. More eyes--and hands--on your code means that problems can come to light faster, and if you know how to code, you can get your hands dirty and actually try to fix it.

Anyway, that's a bit about me. I've been writing and OCD-perfecting this for longer than I care to admit. I'm just going to get this out there--I've got bigger fish to fry.

Hi! Welcome to osu! forums. I am not a Linux user myself, but I am thinking of going into it in the future to work on a laptop for code.

Well, I shot them an email, and they say they can't manually change your country anymore. Apparently it'll be a few months before I'm automatically given the option to fix it from account settings.
(my signature PS was right...)

Ah. I see. It was worth a shot, though.
