yes, but only if you have mapping knowledge then your map would be improved as ever. As a mapper, each of us has also genre taste, some are kpop and some are vgms, which made them comfortable to map.
yes, mapping need both analytical and structured thinking, like analyzing the song to create the beatmap, and identifying different kind of layers (percussion, vocals, etc) in the song. The more often you mapping, the more you will get used to it, and it can spread to solve real life problem as well
Well I have already created some cool map to work on, but that was after I listened to the music a looot and then after I animated a whole bunch for a series that I will never tell you Mapping Discussion Users of what that series is actually going to be, because I'm soo sneaky haha! (And yes I HAVE TO get busy animating with it right now holy moly it's almost 6 p.m. ;_______;)
I think I sometimes really do need to draw random stuff or animate random stuff and also listen to the music in order to map better...
Although trying to make an old-osu style map is pretty easy, so it probably won't give e any favor of being better at mapping other than the fact that proves that I can only map stuff with an old style that no one will probably recognize...
Even though there have been quite a number of old maps ranked recently...
Including the kasane teto one from just hours ago!
However being a mapper now most likely just wastes my time, even though I really do want to get a ranked map! >_<
