Okay, so, when I see the result screen, I want to make a custom skin for the rankings (D, C, B, A, S, Silver S, SS, and Silver SS). How can I do this?

Hi 6V22P90!
You do need to have any Image Editor Software like Photoshop, Paint.NET or GIMP to create your own skin elements.
Once that's set, all you need is to name the file in .png format.

These are the names that is used to show the grades in the result screen:
ranking-xh // SS rank with hidden or flashlight
ranking-x
ranking-sh // S rank with hidden or flashlight
ranking-s
ranking-a
ranking-b
ranking-c
ranking-d

Alternatively, you can download custom skins and try remix into your own skin to get familiarised with editing skins.

Okay, but where exactly do I put the .png file? I'm not sure exactly where I should put it in to make the skin show up.

To create a new skin, all you need are the few steps:

1.) Right click your osu! icon and find "open file location". Then click on the Skins folder. Be sure your filepath is said as below:
C:\Users\[YOUR USER]\AppData\Local\osu!\Skins

2.) Add a new folder and name whatever skin you want it to be.

3.) Inside that new folder you created, you may add the .png files - examples your ranking grades.

4.) Once everything is done, press these four keys altogether in osu! - "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "Alt" + "S"
