how to get the best audio.
there are three ways to get audio
- rip from a source (usually a game)
- rip from streaming services
- cd-rip.
- rip from a source - download the audio source, dance with tambourine over the audio files,
follow Algorithm 4, ???, PROFIT!!! - rip from streaming services - download flac from here https://free-mp3-download.net/, follow algorithm 4, ???, PROFIT!!!
- cd-rip - private invite-only sites (you know what i'm talking about, jpops***) or SoulSeek. f/e: download SoulSeek, look for flac there, and the same procedure as above
If MV bitrate exceeds 192 kbps - follow Algorithm 5 instead of Algorithm 4.
Algorithm 5 - Download oggenc2, use cmd/terminal/anything you want,oggenc2.exe -b 192 "path to flac"
if your bitrate is above 192 - lower it by 2, 3... and until your bitrate is in 192 threshold
Please, don't make situations when mapper is using audio from one album and you give him audio from another one, they have different mastering, and it sounds very different... You know, BN's won't be happy about it.- rip from a source - download the audio source, dance with tambourine over the audio files,
how to check audio correctly
it's very simple here. if mv doesn't detect anything - follow instructions below
download spek, open it to full screen and look at the spectrogram
if you have a .mp3 of 192 and the spectro looks like this \/
it's quite rankable audio, don't touch it unless you want to give better audio (if you can)

that's good lol
if you have a .mp3 of 192 and spectro looks like this \/
it's a bloated 128 and you need to find a better one
mp3:
128kbps audio: cutoff on 15.8-17khz without any frequencies higher at all.
192kbps audio: cutoff on 18khz and higher
extended about spectral analysis - https://interviewfor.red/en/spectrals.html
ogg:
ayy lmao
there is no way someone would overencode ogg, right?)
feel free to correct me and give any suggestions.
extra
as i tested, konmai game files don't need any tambourine dance and you can just export .s3v (sdvx) or any other file to audacity
it's bad to transcode mp3 -> ogg. don't do it if you can get .flac.
in other case... well.. use mp3 vbr
Algorithm 6 - if your audio bitrate is 193-195kbps by MV, it's kinda acceptable to add a liiiiiitle silence in the end to trick it.
it's really not recommended but it's situational. at most situations it's just better to reencode your audio with VLC (algorithm 5)
