One important thing that you need to work on before focusing on patterning is understanding beat and note emphasis in rhythm. Your note placements aren't going to matter if your understanding of rhythm in music structure is lacking. I'd recommend to watch this pishifat video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmCEfh865b4 to get a general idea on how music is structured and then to slow down and really focus on improving your rhythm emphasis until you feel confident enough to move forward. If you can understand how music is structured and how to properly emphasize it's most important sounds, then patterning will become a lot easier to comprehend and do later down the line.
